Like the first season, these new episodes will arrive in two batches, which means we’re most likely going to have 24 episodes in total this time around again as well.
The two cours (as they’re also known) will hopefully air back-to-back, meaning fans can expect new Yuji and Gojo content well into 2024. The show’s latest episode, titled Hidden Inventory 3, is set to air on July 20th 2023.
Is Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 a prequel?
The first arc of season 2, the Hidden Inventory arc, is a prequel, following Gojo in his younger years.
Around the 12th episode, at the end of the first cour, we’ll have a time jump, and will then follow Gojo as an adult alongside his students for the second cour.
After the Death Painting arc was completed in season 1, it was confirmed that Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 will adapt Gojo’s past arc alongside the Shibuya Incident arc.
Taking place in 2006, the season’s first few episodes follow Gojo in his school student days, learning how to deal with cursed spirits during their second year of learning.
MAPPA’s CEO Manabu Otsuka has already stated that season 2 is guaranteed to be completely different during an interview with Crunchyroll.
“The first season of the television series and the movie have been very, very successful. We would like to leverage that success for season 2, but we are not going to be doing the same thing and repeat ourselves.
“To the fans of the series, I would like to show even greater success and bigger growth in season 2.”
