Gareth Southgate’s preparations for Euro 2024 begin in earnest when England face minnows Malta under the Friday night lights at Wembley.
Last month’s 3-1 victory at home to Italy – in a repeat of the Euro 2020 final – ensured the Three Lions’ automatic passage to next summer’s tournament in Germany and continued their unbeaten form in Group C.
England have a limited number of matches to fine tune tactics before Euro 2024 kicks off, but Southgate is without a whole host of familiar faces for the remaining two qualifiers.
Rising star Jude Bellingham was initially named in the squad but misses out due to a shoulder problem, while the likes of Ben Chilwell, Luke Shaw and John Stones are also sidelined through injury.
