Ian Wright has confirmed he will be stepping down from BBC’s Match of the Day.

The football legend and pundit announced the news this morning (Sunday 17th December) on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account.

“After my debut show whilst still a player in 1997 and many more memorable years, I’ll be stepping back from BBC MOTD at the end of this season,” he wrote.

“I feel very privileged to have had such an incredible run on the most iconic football show in the world.”

He noted that the decision to step down “has been coming for a while” but his birthday earlier this year “fast tracked it a little”.

He added: “Ultimately it’s time to do a few more different things with my Saturdays.”
