Netflix has confirmed that Sweet Tooth season 3 is coming this year!

Fans of the show have well and truly fallen in love with Gus (Christian Convery), the deer-human hybrid who grew up away from the bigoted wider world with his ‘Pubba’ (Will Forte).

Season 2 upped the stakes and left plenty of us a little broken-hearted. Soon after the episodes dropped on Netflix, it was confirmed that Gus would return for one final time for a third outing.

Now, we’ve been treated to the first footage from season 3 in a sizzle reel from Netflix that confirmed which series we’ve got to look forward to this year.

Here’s everything we know about Sweet Tooth season 3!

Sweet Tooth season 3 release date speculation

Netflix has confirmed Sweet Tooth season 3 will hit screens sometime in 2024.

We don’t have a confirmed release date just yet but we’ll update this page once we now more.

Last year, the show was renewed for season 3 with the cast celebrating in a sweet video. Production took place in New Zealand – so we can be sure to expect more of the stunning visuals we’ve gotten used to!

Showrunner Jim Mickle said of the third and final season: “In a lot of ways, it’s exactly the story that I imagined we would tell and in a lot of ways it takes on its own life.

“At the beginning, I think you set out to tell these landmark pieces of Gus’ story and the big pieces of the comic book, but the beauty of long-form storytelling and Gus’ journey over 24 episodes is the characters themselves tell you what they want to be.

“The crew and cast bring so much depth and point of view to who the characters are and where they’ve come from and where they’re going.”

Of course, we’d expect many of our favourites to return to the fold, including:

  • Christian Convery as Gus
  • Nonso Anozie as Jepp
  • Adeel Akhtar as Dr Singh
  • Aliza Vellani as Rani Singh
  • Naledi Murray as Wendy
  • Josh Brolin as Narrator
  • Rosalind Chao as Zhang
  • Amy Seimetz as Birdie

Meanwhile, Netflix has confirmed the addition of more cast regulars:

  • Cara Gee as Siana
  • Ayazhan Dalabayeva as Nuka

One character’s fate is very much up in the air. The evil General Abbot, played by Neil Sandilands, was injected with H5G9 before being trampled by bison in the season 2 finale – but whether he’s actually gone for good remains to be seen. When asked if he’s dead, showrunner Jim Mickle simply told Tudum: “Maybe.”

His brother Johnny, played by Marlon Williams, likely won’t be returning as he was murdered by the General after he tried to stop him invading Gus’s home.

Another character who didn’t make it out alive was little Roy, who was murdered at the beginning of the season, while the kind-hearted Aimee Eden, played by Dania Ramirez, tragically dies by the end of season 2, refusing to accept any treatment from the blood of hybrids.

Mickle said of her demise: “Aimee, who already had the Sick when she mustered up the strength to take part in the final battle at Yellowstone, eventually died from the virus.”

Season 2 ended with Gus, Jepp, Becky and Wendy on their way to find Birdie in Alaska.

Mickle told Tudum of the upcoming season: “[It’s] another road trip story like Season 1, but in a very different way.

“Season 3 is an Arctic story with exciting new adventures and what we hope will be a satisfying conclusion to this epic tale. Gus is going to see a side of the world and humanity that he didn’t see in Season 1 or 2.”

He added that we’ll also see a tonal shift in season 3, saying that the season will be darker than we’re used to.

“In Season 3, everybody is dealing with some kind of wound or emotional loss, whether that was somebody in their life or a part of themselves,” Mickle told Netflix. “Everybody is looking inward and looking to move on and ultimately learning that life doesn’t stop. You have to keep putting one foot in front of another.”

Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell have also referenced the rising tensions in season 3 – so it’s clear the stakes will be even higher.

Is there a trailer for Sweet Tooth 3?
