The Berlin Ladies Open looks set to draw a strong field to the German capital as the lawn tennis season heats up.

A host of top contenders tipped to go long at Wimbledon are expected to take to the grass courts here for the WTA 500 event.

The tournament runs parallel to the Birmingham Classic, but its higher points offer will draw a stronger crowd to Germany.

Petra Kvitová defeated Donna Vekić in last year’s final to clinch the title, and will be keen to defend her crown – and points – ahead of Wimbledon.
