The second spin-off from Law & Order producer Dick Wolf’s FBI franchise, following on from the original FBI series and FBI: Most Wanted, FBI: International follows the elite operatives from the FBI’s “fly team” – Special Agents who neutralise threats against the US from their scenic base in Budapest.

The team, led by agent Scott Forrester (Luke Kleintank), have already spent two tense seasons dealing with worldwide criminal and terrorist threats as well as the bureaucratic red tape that comes with working in foreign countries – which also means they can’t wave their guns around as much as their US-based counterparts.

Nevertheless, it’s still an exciting watch, but the new series is set to include some major changes to the regular cast. While we know that Christina Wolfe will be joining the season 3 cast, it’s now also been confirmed that Heida Reed (who has portrayed Special Agent Jamie Kellett since season 1’s premiere) is set to leave the show in the upcoming series.

According to Deadline, Reed’s departure is a creative decision, and neither CBS nor Wolf Entertainment would comment on the news.

With the new series set to premiere next month, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming FBI: International season 3.

FBI: International season 3 release date speculation: When will it air?

Last year’s now-resolved writers’ and actors’ strikes put production the series (and most TV shows in the US) on hold for months, but FBI: International’s return is confirmed for Tuesday 13th February 2024 on CBS.

While we do have a US release date, we’ll just have to wait and see if UK fans can expect the series at the same time as across the pond. But the series will likely become available to watch via Sky and NOW in the UK.

Although season 2 ended with a big cliffhanger that could spell doom for at least one character (more on that in a moment), we do expect to see most, if not all, of the main cast returning.

But in what will likely be surprise news for fans, Heida Reed will departing the series in the upcoming season, having played the second-in-command since the show’s inception. Reed is set to leave the new season early on but as for what will be her final episode, details have not yet been released.

We do know, though, that there’s already a new confirmed character joining the series, with Christina Wolfe joining the new season as a series regular, although details about her new character remain under wraps for now.

The cast members we’d expect to see in season 3 are:

  • Luke Kleintank as Special Agent Scott Forrester
  • Heida Reed as Special Agent Jamie Kellett
  • Vinessa Vidotto as Special Agent Cameron Vo
  • Eva-Jane Willis as Megan ‘Smitty’ Garretson
  • Carter Redwood as Special Agent Andre Raines
  • Christina Wolfe as TBC

Fans are hoping for the return of Tank the dog, too, especially as he didn’t make as many appearances in the second season as he did in the first. The Giant Schnauzer, played by a dog called Green, did turn up in the season 2 finale – so here’s hoping he survived the events of that episode and will be back, wagging his fluffy tail in season 3.

The final episode of season 2 ended with an explosive cliffhanger that means anything could happen in season 3.

After preventing a stolen Russian nuclear missile from being sold on the black market, the team faced an attack at their own office in Budapest – an explosion that took out the building. The only two members of the Fly Team who were definitely outside at the time of the blast were Raines and (phew!) Tank the dog.

Raines was running towards the building when the bomb went off so was caught in the force of the blast, but has hopefully survived. We’re less sure of the fate of Forrester, Kellett, Vo, Smitty, agent Damian Powell (Greg Hovanessian) and informant Olivia Thornton (Kristen Connolly), who were all inside at the time of the attack.

The new series will also be the first under the showrunning direction of Matt Olmstead after the departure of FBI: International creator Derek Haas as showrunner. Haas served as showrunner on the series for the first two seasons but departed at the end of season 2 and announcing the news in November 2023, Haas said: “Although I am leaving Wolf Entertainment next year to focus on creating new shows, I’m entirely committed to delivering amazing episodes of Chicago Fire and FBI: International through the end of the current seasons.

“I learned everything I know about storytelling, pace, characters, production values, and hiring the best cast, crews, and staffs from Dick Wolf and Peter Jankowski, and as hard as it is to leave a place you love and have called home for over a decade, including incredible support from Universal Television, NBC and CBS, I look forward to building my own brand in entertainment.”
