There’s no denying that the God of War Ragnarok release date is one of the most exciting upcoming moments for PlayStation-preferring gamers, with many of us eagerly awaiting an opportunity to see where Kratos and Atreus go next.
The sequel to Sony’s 2018 God of War game will pick up the dangling narrative threads of Atreus turning out to be Loki, while Kratos continues to come to terms with his position as a father. This game will also wrap up the ongoing story about Norse gods, which began in the previous game.
God of War Ragnarok is destined for PS4 and PS5, and we’ve got all the important information for you below. Read on to learn all about this very exciting release!
When is the God of War Ragnarok release date?
The God of War Ragnarok release date will take place in 2022, but the developers from Sony’s Santa Monica Studio have yet to confirm a precise date or even a month.
Rumours on Twitter have suggested that 30th September 2022 could end up being the God of War Ragnarok release date, but we’ll be sure to let you know if that date – or any other one – gets confirmed by an official source.
Is God of War Ragnarok on PS4 or PS5?
Sony’s Hermen Hulst, the Head of PlayStation Studios, revealed in a blog post that God of War: Ragnarok will release on both PS4 and PS5. This may come as a surprise, considering that many believed this would be a PS5 exclusive.
Hulst said, “Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 — for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 — we’ll continue looking at that. And if PS4 owners want to play that game, then they can. If they want to go on and play the PS5 version, that game will be there for them.”

Can I pre-order God of War Ragnarok?
Not yet! The game is eyeing a release in 2022, but you can’t order your copy just yet. Of course, only time will tell if this goes down in history as one of the best PS5 games, but Sony fans will want to get their order in nice and early. We’ll let you know when pre-orders open. We could learn more at Sony’s next State Of Play event.
What is the God of War Ragnarok story?
Sony is keeping its cards close to its chest when it comes to God of War: Ragnarok’s story, but we do know a few things about the game’s narrative direction.
For one thing, a showdown between Kratos and Thor was teased at the end of the last game, and we also learned that Atreus’ original name was Loki. With those two nuggets of information in mind, we can expect more nuggets of Norse mythology to factor in this next release.
Expect more detailed information to start being released over the coming months as the promotional campaign really kicks off- but we are eager to learn as much as we can about the much-anticipated sequel.
