Steven Moffat’s starry new project, Inside Man, is coming to BBC One shortly, and despite now having both a synopsis and a trailer available, its plot remains highly secretive.
The series stars David Tennant as a local vicar, while Stanley Tucci plays a prisoner on death row in the US, thousands of miles away.
Meanwhile Lydia West plays a journalist and Dolly Wells, a maths teacher. Exactly how all these disparate figures come together remains to be seen, but from the looks of things it’s sure to be a dark, thrilling ride.
But when can viewers watch it on BBC One? Read on for everything you need to know about Inside Man.
When will Inside Man air on BBC One?

We now have a confirmed release date for Inside Man – episode 1 will air at 9pm on BBC One on Monday 26th September, followed by the second episode at the same time on Tuesday 27th September.
Episodes 3 and 4 will then air on 3rd and 4th October respectively. Each episode will also be available on BBC iPlayer after it airs.
The series is a co-production between BBC Studios and Netflix, meaning it will stream on Netflix internationally at an undisclosed date.
What is Inside Man about?

The official synopsis for the four-part series says: “In the US, a prisoner on death row (Stanley Tucci) is seeking atonement as he faces execution. On a train in England, a journalist (Lydia West) is looking for a story.
“In a quiet little village, a vicar (David Tennant) is picking up his son’s maths tutor (Dolly Wells) from the station. All four are about to be entangled in a dilemma that could lead one of them to murder…”
Other than this the plot of Inside Man remains tightly under wraps, with plenty of surprises sure to be in store.
Inside Man cast

After his chilling performance in 2020’s ITV drama Des, as well as a long list of TV credits including Deadwater Fell, Broadchurch and Doctor Who, David Tennant has more than shown his capabilities with challenging roles and is poised to do the same in this series.
Lydia West, fresh from her work on Russell T Davies’ drama It’s A Sin, is another exciting name on the cast roster. Her portrayal as Jill, the strong and friendly activist during the 1980s and 1990s AIDS crisis in London, was widely praised.
Also signed up for the project is Hollywood regular Stanley Tucci. He’s recently been seen on screen across from Colin Firth in romantic-drama Supernova, as well as Feud, The King’s Man and Spotlight.
Dracula‘s Dolly Wells also plays a significant role in the show – she’s recently appeared on screens in dystopian dating series Soulmates and Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar-nominated film Can You Ever Forgive Me?.
The cast also includes the show’s creator Steven Moffat’s son Louis Oliver, who plays Tennant’s character Harry’s son Ben.
Here’s a full list of the announced cast for Inside Man:

Who is behind-the-scenes on Inside Man?

As well as familiar faces on screen, the talent behind the scenes for Inside Man is just as reliably strong.
Steven Moffat, known for his BAFTA and Emmy-winning work on Doctor Who and Sherlock, serves as writer and creator for the series, with Sue Vertue serving as an executive producer on the show.
Turns out, they’re just as thrilled at the cast list as we are – in a statement following the cast being announced, they wrote: “We’re a bit stunned, and very excited, at the acting talent we’re managing to assemble for this show. Can’t wait to crawl out of our lockdown bunker and get to work.”
All episodes of Inside Man have been directed by Paul McGuigan, with Alex Mercer as producer.
