Idris Elba’s John Luther (and his big grey coat) are back.
It’s been a long four years without Idris Elba’s DCI Luther, who has launched back onto our screens in the movie Luther: The Fallen Sun.
Written by Neil Cross and directed by Jamie Payne, the Netflix film serves as a sequel to the original long-running series and will mark the final instalment of the story.
The Fallen Sun follows the maverick detective who, since the end of the series, has been disgraced and behind bars, as he breaks out of prison to defeat a cyber-killer played by Andy Serkis who is terrorising the streets.
Other newcomers include Cynthia Erivo who joins the cast as a rival detective called Odette Raine, but who else stars in the film and who do they all play?

Who does not return for Luther: The Fallen Sun?
Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson)
Despite being a fan-favourite for the series’ run, Ruth Wilson does not reprise her role as Alice Morgan.
In fact, the character appeared to fall to her death at the conclusion of the show’s fifth season but the franchise’s creator Neil Cross has hinted that a return could be on the cards.
Cross told RadioTimes.com: “I think fan-service is a sugar high. And I think it’s very tempting for any filmmaker, any writer to do. Just say, ‘Let’s see Mark crossing the street.’ But I think it’s essentially meretricious and it doesn’t respect the engagement of the returning audience with the universe. It was too cheap.
“And also, I think it would be discourteous to the new audience, who see something which they know means something but they don’t know what it is.”
The writer continued: “That, to me, is like the cool kids in the corner who arbitrarily lace their trainers in a particular way that makes you the in-group or out-group. We are more welcoming than that.
“But that is not to say that these characters are not still alive and very much part of the universe. And it’s not to say that we might not meet them at some point in the future.”
