Ben Miller’s ITV crime drama Professor T is back for a second season, and this time there’s a big new name in the cast.
Juliet Stevenson has joined the drama as Dr Helena Goldberg, the Professor’s therapist who helps him uncover more of his troubled and mysterious childhood.
The second season also sees season 1 cast members including Emma Naomi and Frances de le Tour return, playing Lisa Donckers and the Professor’s mother Adelaide respectively.

Ben Miller plays Professor T
Who is Professor T? An enigmatic criminology lecturer (aka Jasper Tempest) who has OCD and is obsessed with surgical gloves and hand-washing. He’s drawn into the world of real-life crime solving when a former pupil of his, DI Lisa Donckers, reaches out and takes a chance on him.
Where have I seen Ben Miller before? He recently played Lord Featherington in the Netflix smash-hit period drama, Bridgerton, and briefly reprised his role as DI Richard Poole in Death in Paradise. He’s also known for his comedy partnership in The Armstrong and Miller Show, and roles in the likes of I Want My Wife Back, Paddington 2, and Johnny English Strikes Again.
Emma Naomi plays Lisa Donckers
Who is Lisa Donckers? A witty, charming police detective and former pupil of Professor T, who reached out to her old mentor and now works with him on cases.
Where have I seen Emma Naomi before? She recently played Alice Mondrich in Netflix series Bridgerton (alongside co-star Ben Miller) and starred in BBC drama The Trial of Christine Keeler.
Sarah Woodward plays Ingrid Snares
Who is Ingrid Snares? Professor T’s acid-tongued personal assistant, Ingrid is a gossip who is “easily taken for an ultra-conservative, but beneath the twin-set and pearls there lurks a true subversive who likes nothing better than knocking back absinthe and ogling body-building magazines”.
Where have I seen Sarah Woodward before? She’s known for roles in the likes of Poirot, Queens of Mystery, The Pale Horse, Supernova, Quiz, Endeavour, and The Politician’s Husband.
Douglas Reith plays The Dean
Who is The Dean? A Cambridge Dean.
Where have I seen Douglas Reith before? He’s probably best known as Isobel Crawley’s love interest, Lord Merton, in Downton Abbey. He’s also starred in the likes of The Queen, The Prince and the Pauper, and Outlander.
Frances de la Tour plays Adelaide
Who is Adelaide? The professor’s scene-stealing, overbearing mother. Jasper Tempest experienced a childhood trauma when he was younger, which is often hinted at during scenes featuring Adelaide.
Where have I seen Frances de la Tour before? The actress is known for roles in the likes of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The History Boys, and Rising Damp (as Miss Ruth Jones). Other projects have included Into The Woods (as Giant), Vicious, Outlander, and recently in the first Enola Holmes film (as the Dowager).

Who is Dr Helena Goldberg? Helena is Professor T’s therapist who is also his intellectual match.
Where have I seen Juliet Stevenson before? Stevenson has previously appeared in series such as Riviera, The Man Who Fell to Earth and The Village, while her film roles include Bend it Like Beckham, Nicholas Nickleby and 1996’s Emma.
Barney White plays Dan Winters
Who is Dan Winters? Lisa’s supportive police sidekick, he’s the “ying to her yang” and is “just the sort of boy you’d want to bring home to meet your parents, unless, that is, you unfortunately happen to work with him”.
Where have I seen Barney White? He’s starred in the likes of Holby City, King Gary, and Miss Marx.
Andy Gathergood plays Paul Rabbit
Who is Paul Rabbit? Previously a model cop, senior officer Rabbit has lost his way following a personal tragedy. He dislikes working with Professor T and distrusts his methods.
Where have I seen Andy Gathergood before? Gathergood has previously appeared in 2010 mini-series Five Daughters, two episodes of 2012’s Hatfields & McCoys, as well as instalments of The Last Kingdom, Britannia and The Salisbury Poisonings.
Juliet Aubrey plays Christina Brand
Who is DCI Christina Brand? Head of the local CID, with confusing feelings for her old flame: none other than Professor T himself.
Where have I seen Juliet Aubrey before? The BAFTA-winner has previously appeared in Middlemarch (as Dorothea), The Constant Gardener, Primeval (as Helen Cutter), and as Countess of Warwick in The White Queen.
Ben Onwukwe plays Jackson Donckers
Who is Jackson Donckers? Lisa’s father and a retired police officer.
Where have I seen Ben Onwukwe before? He’s starred in various projects including Safe, Marcella, Doctors, London’s Burning, Coronation Street, and The Bill.
