BBC One’s Morning Live has kicked off 2024 with a brand new presenting line-up, along with some familiar faces returning to host the daytime magazine show.

From Tuesday 2nd January 2024, Helen Skelton and Michelle Ackerley will become permanent presenters on the series, and will be alternating alongside Gethin Jones every Monday to Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Jones will continue to present four to five shows a week, with Kym Marsh presenting on Thursdays and a host of guest presenters including Kimberley Walsh, Sara Cox, Gaby Roslin and Rav Wilding continuing to co-host regularly.

Airing every weekday, Morning Live covers all kinds of topical content, with the hosts and presenters bringing on experts to chat through the news and the biggest topics affecting Britain today.

The chat show has come a long way since its first series back in 2020, and as they ring in the new year, they have taken on a few more hosts – many of whom you’ll definitely recognise.

Here’s everything you need to know about the presenting line-up of Morning Live.

Morning Live presenters: Who hosts the show in Manchester?

Gethin Jones has hosted Morning Live since it debuted on BBC One back in 2020.

The TV presenter rose to fame in 2005 for hosting Blue Peter after presenting various Welsh shows like Popty and Mas Draw.

After leaving Blue Peter in 2008, Jones hosted his own BBC Radio 5 Live show, The National Lottery: Big 7, BBC Proms in the Park, The One Show and Holding Out for a Hero.

He was a reporter for Daybreak and has competed on Strictly Come Dancing, as well as Celebrity MasterChef. He now co-hosts the Breakfast Show on Hits Radio.

Speaking on Morning Live heading in 2024, Jones said: “I absolutely love working with Helen and Michelle and I’m thrilled they’re going to be a more regular part of the fantastic team at Morning Live.

“We have all been friends for years, so I know there are going to be plenty of laughs in store for our audiences to see, especially now we will be on your screen for longer, too!”

Helen Skelton

Helen Skelton is a TV presenter and actress who, similarly to Gethin Jones, once hosted Blue Peter from 2008 to 2013.

She was previously a presenter on Countryfile and co-presented Holiday Hit Squad alongside Angela Rippon and Joe Crowley. Skelton also hosted a weekly slot on BBC Radio 5 Live on Sundays from 3pm to 6pm, before leaving the show in August 2023.

Speaking about her becoming a presenter on Morning Live, Skelton said she is “so excited to become a more regular member of the Morning Live family, and be in such good company”.

“It’s really nice to be part of a programme giving so many people a voice. Everything we talk about on the show is what my friends and family are texting me about; we’re right at the heart of what matters to people right now. We’re not just highlighting problems, though, we’re finding solutions – and I love that we’re able to help in some small way.”

Michelle Ackerley

Michelle Ackerley is now a permanent presenter on Morning Live, and will be alternating fronting the show alongside Gethin Jones every Monday to Wednesday.

Ackerley is a TV presenter and journalist, and is best known for her work on The One Show, World’s Strongest Man and Watchdog. The presenter has also taken part in a variety of TV shows, including And They’re Off! and Celebrity MasterChef.

Ackerley said he is “delighted” to be joining Helen as part of the regular Morning Live line-up.

She said: “I have absolutely loved being part of the show far, which we know can make a real difference to people’s lives. I’m looking forward to keeping our audiences company in the mornings and doing that alongside friends.

“I’ve known Geth and Helen for a long time now and, believe it or not, Helen and I used to flat share back in the day! To do this all in my home town of Manchester is a dream!”

Kym Marsh

As for her acting career, Marsh has also appeared on Holby City, Doctors, The Syndicate and currently stars in BBC One’s revival of Waterloo Road.

She presented Radio 1 Breakfast from 2000 until 2003, and has since moved into TV, hosting shows like The BRIT Awards: Red Carpet, the Eurovision Song Contest, The Great Pottery Throw Down, This Morning, Between the Covers and The Sara Cox Show.

Since the group split up in 2013 – before this year’s reunion – Walsh branched out into acting, landing roles in Horrid Henry: The Movie, All Stars, The Lodge and Ackley Bridge.

As for TV presenting, Walsh has co-hosted Weekend Brunch, Suck My Pop, The Girls Aloud Party, and she has competed on The Great Sport Relief Bake Off and Strictly Come Dancing.
