The latest series of Mindy Kaling’s Never Have I Ever made its Netflix debut earlier this month, with Maitreyi Ramakrishnan returning to our screens as awkward teen Devi Vishwakumar and if you’ve already binged all 10 episodes, you’ll know she makes a number of questionable decisions in series two.

That being said, the season two finale ended with Devi and Paxton becoming an item after Devi refused to be the high school jock’s little secret anymore.

“There are many times where Devi can be too nervous to say what’s on her mind, though she is a very confident girl in other ways. But here is the first time we’re seeing her stand her ground and saying, ‘OK, you know what? This is not going to work out. I’m sorry,’” Ramakrishnan recently told TVLine.

When it comes to how the new relationship will pan out, the comedy star said she had no idea how it would pan out, revealing the cast “only know a little bit in advance”, however Jaren Lewinson, who plays Ben, recently revealed that he’s excited to see how Ben deals with his feelings for Devi while in a relationship with Aneesa in season three.

“It’s a situation that we’ve never seen him in. Both of those girls have some really incredible qualities that Ben’s really attracted to, and I think it’s going to come down to what is going to make him a better person,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “Who’s going to challenge him in specific ways, and who’s going to make him feel seen?”

Will there be a Never Have I Ever season 3?

Netflix is yet to announce whether its teen comedy Never Have I Ever will return for a third season, as the show’s latest episodes only dropped very recently.

That said, they seem to have gone down well with audiences, earning strong reviews and rocketing to the number one spot on Netflix’s internal top ten list in the UK.

We’ll keep this page updated as news on the future of Never Have I Ever comes along.

Never Have I Ever season 3 release date

If Never Have I Ever does get renewed for a third season, it would most likely be released approximately one year from now in summer 2022.

The first ever episodes dropped in April 2020, while the second moved to a July 2021 slot, which might have been caused by the coronavirus pandemic slowing production on most scripted shows.

If Netflix orders another season of Never Have I Ever, it would see the return of Maitreyi Ramakrishnan in the lead role of high school student Devi Vishwakumar.

We can also expect to see more from Lee Rodriguez and Ramona Young as close friends Fabiola and Eleanor, while fans will also want to know what’s next for love interests Paxton (Darren Barnet) and Ben (Jaren Lewison).

Rounding out the supporting cast are Richa Moorjani as Devi’s cousin, Kamala, and Poorna Jagannathan as her mother, Nalini, while Emmy nominee Niecy Nash could also return as therapist Dr Jamie Ryan.

Former tennis player John McEnroe would likely return to provide his narration.

**SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2**

Season two was a wild ride for Devi, who started off with two boyfriends and an expectation that she’d be moving to India really soon, but actually ended up staying in the US with her grandmother moving in.

In the season finale, she reconciled with Paxton and the two officially became an item as the heartbroken Ben watched on, having realised that he still had feelings for her.

Fans of Ben and Devi needn’t give up hope however, with series creator Mindy Kaling hinting in a recent interview that the road to love for Paxton and Devi won’t be a smooth one.

“I’ve watched enough romantic comedies that it’s not interesting unless it’s constantly shifting and changing,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “Having the lead character be happy in love is not super interesting to me. It’s more suspenseful when we don’t know.”

Jaren Lewinson, who plays Ben, added that Ben may start to doubt his new relationship with Aneesa (Megan Suri). “That scene gave me goosebumps because I realised Ben has such an inner conflict that has just surfaced that he’s now going to have to deal with.

“You’re thinking, OK, he’s kind of got this relationship with Aneesa [Megan Suri] going on. And it’s like, can he continue putting his heart into that? Or is his heart in a different place? And if it is, can he even do anything about it? How do you navigate that? I’m really excited, fingers crossed, for season three to see that explored.

“It’s a situation that we’ve never seen him in. Both of those girls have some really incredible qualities that Ben’s really attracted to, and I think it’s going to come down to what is going to make him a better person. Who’s going to challenge him in specific ways, and who’s going to make him feel seen?”

Never Have I Ever star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan recently told Variety her top hope for a potential third season: “I’d like to see her [Devi] stand up for herself a little more and just speak her mind.

“Not the way that she does already where she’s doing it at the detriment of other people, but just, say how you feel when she’s not feeling OK.

“We got a glimpse of that in season two when she stands up to Paxton and says, ‘OK then this is not going to work out. I’m sorry.’ That was a really nice beginning to something that could be really great, about her speaking her mind.”

Beyond that, the writers will have to chart a future course for Devi and Paxton, after the young couple turned up to their winter dance together, making their romance public to the rest of the school – but will it last?

On a more serious note, the show is likely to continue exploring Devi’s grief, as she continues to grapple with the loss of her father in the first season.
