Sleep like a Snorlax with this new companion app.
After spending all day walking around, trying to catch ‘em all in Pokémon Go, the Pokémon Company want us to have a good night’s rest – and have made a sleep-tracking app, Pokémon Sleep, that will register our snoozes and compare them with various Pokémon’s own sleep cycles.
But if this makes you as confused as we once were, you’ll be glad to know we have Pokémon Sleep explained for you here, with its release date, where to download and all the latest news.
Announced back in 2019, we’re finally seeing how the developers will turn “sleeping into entertainment” much in the same way that they gamified walking. We’re left wondering what will be next… Pokémon Go Potty to track our digestive health?
In all seriousness, sleep is a vital part of our wellbeing, and anything that gets people to be more conscious of it is a good thing in our books.

When is the Pokémon Sleep release date?
Pokémon Sleep is out now, as of 18th July 2023, in the UK and Europe. This is only a short few days after the Pokémon Go Plus device came out, and the pair will work in conjunction to provide extra features and functionality.
Pokémon Sleep was first released on 17th July 2023 in Australia, Australia, Canada, Latin America (select countries) and New Zealand.
Presumably, there will be a US release in the coming days – most likely before the weekend. Japan is also yet to see a release.
No doubt the launch has been staggered so as not to overwhelm the servers, as it is likely millions will want to enhance their sleep with the help of Professor Neroli.
Where to download Pokémon Sleep
To download Pokémon Sleep, simply visit the App Store if you have an iPhone or Google Play if you have an Android phone.
If you have a Huawei phone, you are currently out of luck – as developer Niantic currently does not support the platform.
Though, you can sideload Google services onto some of the older Huawei devices, if you are technically minded enough, and be able to play Pokémon Go and use Pokémon Sleep too.
It would be great to see Pokémon Sleep integrate with smartwatches such as the Apple Watch and Fit Bit, as tossers and turners out there might not rest peacefully knowing they could knock their phone off the bed and onto the floor.
What is Pokémon Sleep? Gameplay explained
A Pokémon take on a sleep-tracking app, Pokémon Sleep sees users carry out research on a large Snorlax for Professor Neroli.
This is done by placing your smartphone near your pillow and measuring your sleep. The longer you sleep, the more Pokémon you’ll see gathered around Snorlax when you wake up in the morning.
Your sleeping style will be placed in one of three categories – snoozing, dozing or slumbering – and Pokémon who also sleep in that way will appear with Snorlax once you wake.
You’ll have to discover all the available Pokémon to complete your sleep style dex, with rare styles to be discovered…
Pokémon Sleep is also compatible with Pokémon Go Plus, a Pokéball-shaped device that uses Bluetooth to connect to your smartphone. The device can then also be used to track sleep data, and has a Pikachu voice that can be used to sing sleepy lullabies.
The Pokemon Go Plus will also be compatible with Pokémon Go, allowing users to press the central button to automatically throw Pokéballs in-game. The device will be available on 21st July 2023, but the price and other purchase details are yet to be revealed.
