David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will lead the cast.
There’s been a whole lot of buzz about the future of the DCU ever since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-chairmen at the studio – and one of the most anticipated upcoming big-screen projects is Superman Legacy.
The reboot isn’t scheduled to be released in cinemas until 2025 but we now know who will be playing the lead duo in the much-anticipated film.
James Gunn tweeted on Tuesday (27th June 2023) about the casting of Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent and Lois Lane in the form of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.
Sharing news of their casting, Gunn tweeted: “Accurate! (They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people).”

Superman Legacy cast: Full list of confirmed actors for James Gun film
David Corenswet plays Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent
Who is Superman? Of course, the original superhero and DC’s leading man, Superman is the last scion of the planet Krypton who was transported to safety by his scientist father to reach a safe home – Earth. The new film will not be an origin story but will explore Clark trying to reconcile his small-town upbringing and Earth identity with his destiny as the Last Son of Krypton.
What else has David Corenswet been in? The American actor is known for his roles in the Ryan Murphy series The Politician and Hollywood, the mini-series We Own This City, and the films Look This Way and Pearl.
Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane
Who is Lois Lane? An intrepid and whip-smart reporter for the Daily Planet, Lois Lane is the long-running love interest of Superman in the comics and in numerous adaptations.
What else has Rachel Brosnahan been in? Brosnahan is best known for her acclaimed and highly-awarded turn as Midge Maisel in the Amazon series The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, along with the series House of Cards and Manhattan. The American actress has also starred in films such as The Unborn, Beautiful Creatures, I’m Your Woman, The Couriet and Patriots’ Day.
Who else might be in Superman Legacy?
It’s not yet clear which other characters from the comic books might make it into this big-screen adaptation, while it’s also not apparent who Gunn was referring to when he said someone who had been cast who is not one of the “regular players in the Superman world.”
We can expect a variety of Superman supporting characters including Lex Luthor, Jonathan Kent, Martha Kent, Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, and many more.
One person who does appear to be a reasonable bet for a role is the director’s brother Sean Gunn, who has appeared in many of his brother’s films including all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies and The Suicide Squad.
