The legacy of Tom Clancy looms large over pop culture, and now he’s even getting a shiny new online arena shooter game – it’s called Tom Clancy’s XDefiant, and you’ll be able to start playing it pretty soon!

Ubisoft describes XDefiant as “a free-to-play, fast-paced arena shooter that combines intense gunplay with personalised loadouts and specialised factions, as teams of gunfighters – called Defiants – battle for domination”.

XDefiant will be filled with familiar elements from previous Clancy-inspired games, meaning there should be plenty to enjoy for fans of Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell and The Division.

But if you want to learn more about Tom Clancy’s XDefiant and when you can start playing it, read on for all the essential details.

Tom Clancy’s XDefiant release date

The full release date for Tom Clancy’s XDefiant has not yet been confirmed, but we do know the date on which some players will be able to try out an early build of the game – and that is happening very soon indeed.

The first closed beta test for XDefiant is set to start on August 5th 2021, and if you want to get involved in that, then there is still time to do so. Just head over to the XDefiant beta site and get yourself signed up.

Tom Clancy’s XDefiant UK beta

This first beta test – the one that kicks off on August 5th – seems to be reserved for PC players in the USA and Canada, but the game’s official website says that more details should be coming soon about further tests.

“More tests are coming soon, so be sure to register,” says a teasing statement on the game’s website, making us hope that there will be a UK beta for XDefiant before long. We’d also hope to see beta tests geared toward Xbox, PlayStation and cloud-based gamers at some point.

We’ll keep our ear to the ground for more news on XDefiant’s full release, and we’ll also keep our eyes peeled for information on future beta tests. When we learn more, we’ll be sure to update this page.

Which consoles can you get Tom Clancy’s XDefiant on?

Both versions of the Xbox will have the game, so the Xbox One range and the recently released Xbox Series X/S. As for Sony gamers, there is a PS5 and a PS4 release coming, and the game will also be released on PC.

XDefiant will also get a cloud-based release on Google Stadia and Amazon Luna, which should mean that most gamers are able to find a way to play the game if they really want to.

And in even better news, the game has been confirmed to be free to play – we just love the word free here!

Tom Clancy’s XDefiant gameplay

Gameplay videos for Tom Clancy’s XDefiant have started to appear online, like the one below which should give you a feel for the game…

Thanks to videos and announcements, we do know quite a lot about how the game will play. For starters, we know what the characters are that you will be able to choose from in the game, and they all take their inspiration from past games in the Tom Clancy series.

The game will act as a sort of merging of previous games and will be as hectic a game as you would imagine it to be with various game modes said to be included.

The Ubisoft title appears to be a long-term plan for the studio, and it will be continually updated as it goes on with new features, modes and maps added – so another entry in the ever-growing free to play world of gaming.
