The school-based drama has proven to be a big hit with its recently released revival series.
It’s been just a couple of months since the release of season 11 and Waterloo Road is already back on our screens for season 12, with returning familiar faces and new characters alike.
It’s safe to say that the 2023 revival series has been a hit with viewers since it first aired on our screens back in January. It’s gone on to be especially popular with younger viewers and is the BBC’s second biggest drama title with 16-34 year olds of the year so far, behind only Happy Valley.
As well as a beloved cast, the school-set series has become known for tackling a host of pressing and topical issues, as well as being the kind of drama to nurture growing talent. The likes of Phoebe Dynevor, Holliday Grainger and Jodie Comer have all popped up as pupils, obviously going on to have stellar careers thereafter.
The latest season has now landed on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and with seven easy-to-watch episodes primed and ready for fans to tear through, the real question is: can we expect more?
Read on for everything you need to know about Waterloo Road season 13, including release date speculation, casting and more.
Will there be a Waterloo Road season 13?
Yes, Waterloo Road has been confirmed to be returning for a thirteenth season.
The school drama returned to our screens earlier this year and the show had been commissioned for 22 episodes when it was confirmed to be returning.
Seven episodes made up the first of the new run with season 11, while seven followed for the twelfth season. The thirteenth season is therefore expected to consist of eight episodes.
The upcoming episodes have already been filmed and featured in the trailer at the end of the most recent run.
Waterloo Road season 13 release date speculation
Waterloo Road will return for another term in the coming months but considering the short space between the release of the eleventh and twelfth run, we can see the show being back for Autumn 2023.
However, the BBC has yet to confirm when Waterloo Road will return to our screens so watch this space.
Who will star in Waterloo Road season 13?
The revival series has welcomed back some familiar faces like Angela Griffin as new headteacher Kim Campbell, with season 12 also welcoming back Jamie Glover as Andrew Treneman after his departure from the drama back in 2009.
The full list of Waterloo Road cast members that we’d expect to return for season 13 is as follows:

It should be noted Adam Abbou will not be returning to the series following the brutal death of his troubled character Danny Lewis in the fiery finale of the twelfth season.
Meanwhile, it is unknown if troubled teen Myles Massey (Osian Morgan) will feature at all in the show after he started the fire that killed Danny following an emotional breakdown in the finale. If Myles does return, it will likely be to explain whether justice is served for what he did.
Finally, we usually get introduced to new characters in each season of Waterloo Road so we are sure new faces will arrive soon.
Is there a trailer for Waterloo Road season 13?
Yes, but you will have to keep your eyes peeled for the end of Waterloo Road season 12 to see it.
The trailer for “next term” at the conclusion of the season 12 finale shows the school still coming to terms with the loss of Danny Lewis as Kim Campbell takes full responsibility for the tragedy of his death.
Meanwhile, Preston Walters looks set to leave the Sixth Form as the impact of his bulimia nervosa damages his school life, including in sports.
Finally, the school looks set to join an academy trust with a CEO in the form of Andrew Treneman and, while he promises to be “hands off”, we see Andrew and Kim set to reignite their romance.
Will the pair work out this time?
