Chris Wilder is expected to return to Sheffield United in due course, and his new (and old) side faces an imminently daunting task against Liverpool at Bramall Lane live on Amazon Prime Video.

The Blades are set to sack Paul Heckingbottom following a 5-0 rout at the hands of fellow promoted side Burnley at the weekend.

The result leaves Sheffield United rooted to the foot of the table with just five points to their name in 14 outings – and 39 goals conceded. Wilder’s potential task is an enormous one.

In contrast, Jürgen Klopp has steered the Liverpool ship into calmer waters and back into Premier League title contention following a dramatic victory over Fulham at the weekend.

The Reds could go top of the tree after the midweek games, but at this stage of the season, simply grinding out the wins to add to the stockpile is enough to keep the juggernaught rolling.
