Being in control of how a game ends, as so many afford us nowadays, causes a headache for developers when it comes to sequels. How can you follow on from a narrative that has multiple potential outcomes? That is certainly a predicament that developer Bethesda will find itself in once Fallout 5 comes around.

However, with all of the buzz surrounding Amazon Prime’s recent TV adaptation of Fallout, fans have been discussing the canonical ending of 2015’s Fallout 4 which has led to reams of speculation.

So, we have untangled everything for you to try and get a better grasp on just what is happening in the dystopian world of Fallout. Warning: to say spoilers for both the show and Fallout 4 are ahead would be an understatement.

Why are fans talking about the Fallout 4 canon ending?

Fans are talking about Fallout 4’s canonical ending because of the appearance of The Prydwen, which is an airship used by The Brotherhood of Steel, in the first episode of the Fallout TV series.

A Vanity Fair article led fans to initially believe the airship was in fact the Caswennan, but upon closer inspection the word “Prydwen” can be seen clearly in white lettering on the side of the craft as show in the post on X below.
