<\/p>
2022 is shaping up to be a great year for Sheridan Smith \u2013 she\u2019s already impressed in heartbreaking true-crime drama Four Lives<\/a> and also has key roles in Channel 5 series The Teacher<\/a> and upcoming sequel film The Railway Children Return<\/a>.<\/p>\n But next up for the former Gavin and Stacey star is No Return, an ITV drama from Brassic<\/a> writer Danny Brocklehurst that tells the story of an \u201cunassuming family\u201d on the holiday from hell after their trip to Turkey goes horribly awry.<\/p>\n And ahead of the launch of the new show, Smith has revealed that the scripts for No Return are unlike anything she\u2019s read before.<\/p>\n \u201cI read it and was gripped,\u201d she told RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press. \u201cI had to know what happened. And it instantly gave me that jelly belly feeling of, \u2018What would you do in that situation?\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cAnd like [writer] Danny [Brocklehurst] said, it\u2019s ordinary people in an extraordinary situation. And Kathy is an amazing lead role. I was just instantly like, \u2018Wow\u2019, and was very honoured to be asked. She\u2019s a great character. Fiercely loyal; fiercely protective, and someone I could relate to.\u201d<\/p>\n She went on to describe it as \u201chigh angst\u201d, adding: \u201cI instantly thought this has never been done. I\u2019ve never read anything like this before. And from the minute [Kathy\u2019s 16 year old son] Noah was arrested, that\u2019s it. Four hours of intense, high drama.\u201d<\/p> Smith stars alongside Sian Brooke and Michael Jibson in the drama, which will air on ITV in the near future, although an exact release date has not yet been set.<\/p>\n An official synopsis for the series reads: \u201cTheir holiday is a chance to unwind and for Kathy and Martin to spend some much-needed time together. Until unsuspecting Noah accepts a seemingly innocent invitation to a beach party from a fellow holidaymaker, Rosie (Jodie Campbell), who is staying at the same hotel.<\/p>\n \u201cSuddenly Kathy and Martin\u2019s world spectacularly falls apart when they are left desperately fighting for their son\u2019s freedom against extremely challenging circumstances.<\/p>\n \u201cAn arrest, an expensive and alien legal system, looming media coverage and resistance from fellow holidaymakers to come to their aid leaves the distraught parents fighting for Noah\u2019s freedom when ironically he should be at school sitting his latest exams.\u201d<\/p>\n Additional reporting by Abby Robinson<\/em><\/p>\n No Return is coming soon to ITV.
