<\/p>
Sheridan Smith has said that her upcoming role in The Teacher<\/a> will make viewers \u201cincredibly uncomfortable\u201d, with the BAFTA winner playing a teacher accused of having sex with a student in the Channel 5 drama.<\/p>\n Smith stars in the four-part series, which begins on Monday next week, as Jenna Garvey \u2013 an English teacher who tries to prove her innocence when it is alleged that she slept with 15-year-old student Kyle (Ackley Bridge<\/a>\u2018s Samuel Bottomley).<\/p>\n Speaking about her character in The Teacher, Smith said that Jenna foolishly lets the teacher-student boundaries slip at school.<\/p> \u201cI think she is a bit nai\u0308ve. She\u2019s on a mission to save working class kids because that\u2019s where her mum comes from, and she really hates the fact that privileged kids can get further in life,\u201d she said. \u201cShe tries to be a mate to her students, which is her undoing in the end. There are teacher-student boundaries and she has maybe let that slip.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd then of course her life outside of the classroom is chaotic. I really hope people don\u2019t know what to think about her. There were scenes where I was thinking, \u2018This is so terrible, you\u2019d be fired immediately\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cHer actions didn\u2019t sit right with me, but I enjoyed playing them as well. It will make incredibly uncomfortable viewing and you won\u2019t know if you like her or not.\u201d<\/p>\n The drama is set to air over four consecutive nights starting from Monday, with Kelvin Fletcher, Cecilia Noble and Sharon Rooney also part of The Teacher cast<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Teacher will launch on Channel 5 on Monday 31st January at 9pm with all four episodes being stripped across the week.<\/strong><\/p>\n Looking for something else to watch?
