<\/p>
The first episode of Sheridan Smith\u2019s drama The Teacher<\/a> aired on Channel 5 tonight, with the remaining three set to be stripped across the week.<\/p>\n We were introduced to Jenna (Smith), the titular educator and Head of English who is accused of sleeping with her 15-year-old student Kyle (Samuel Bottomley).<\/p>\n Jenna\u2019s chaotic personal life and heavy drinking means she doesn\u2019t remember much about the night in question.<\/p>\n In an episode 2 preview exclusive to RadioTimes.com<\/a>, she is discussing the case with her lawyer Ava (Karen Bryson in The Teacher cast<\/a>). Jenna\u2019s colleague Nina has given a statement, which she describes as \u201cmore like a character assassination\u201d.<\/p> Jenna is surprised to find out her other colleague Jack, played by Strictly\u2019s Kelvin Fletcher, hasn\u2019t provided one. The pair also skirt around Jenna\u2019s drinking problem, and the \u201csleazy\u201d club she goes to \u201cblow off steam\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cSo Kyle knew it might be a place you\u2019d end up on a Friday night,\u201d Ava says, before adding she doesn\u2019t think his story will hold up under \u201ccross-examination\u201d.<\/p>\n She adds: \u201cI mean, look at him, his background, mother lurching between boyfriends, rent in arrears, you know she was arrested for assault.\u201d<\/p>\n Judging by Jenna\u2019s reaction, it doesn\u2019t seem like she\u2019s entirely comfortable with that avenue, and is convinced she\u2019ll lose her job regardless.<\/p>\n Take a look at the clip below:<\/p>
