You see, after years of fan speculation, it was officially confirmed in the episode that Yaz had romantic feelings for the Doctor<\/a>. Moreover, it was revealed that the Doctor was aware of this, and only feigned ignorance to avoid a difficult conversation with her friend and companion.<\/p>\n And now, departing series producer Matt Strevens has addressed the \u201cThasmin\u201d (Thirteen+Yasmin) reaction for the first time, noting that he was pleased the relationship had fans so invested \u2013 but that there might also be difficult times ahead for the duo.<\/p> \u201cI\u2019m not a massive social media guy, but I did go onto Twitter on the night of the Eve of the Daleks broadcast to see what the buzz was, and everybody was talking about it,\u201d he told Doctor Who Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can\u2019t go on your phone without something about \u2018Thasmin\u2019 popping up. But I didn\u2019t even know what it meant! Until suddenly it clicked and I was like, \u2018Wow.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cI think, since Russell brought the show back, most of the companion stories have been love stories. Very different sorts of love \u2013 platonic best-friend love; sometimes a romantic, unrequited love, like with Martha; sometimes more than that, like with Rose and the Doctor. It\u2019s always been there.<\/p>\n \u201cBut I was very pleased with the positive response to those scenes between Yaz and Dan, and Dan and the Doctor. I thought they were beautifully played. Mandip was stunning.\u201d<\/p>\n However, Strevens also came with something of a warning for fans, hinting that the very nature of Doctor Who meant that there was unlikely to be a happy ending for the Doctor and Yaz.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s the old CS Lewis Shadowlands thing, isn\u2019t it?\u201d he said. \u201cIn a way, the Doctor is a bit like Lewis, in that you go, \u2018I either don\u2019t engage with love, and the world, and I protect myself, but I\u2019ve never loved. Or by loving, I will inevitably open myself up to being brokenhearted, because, in the end, all love stories end.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cI think that\u2019s a constant thing the Doctor\u2019s grappling with \u2013 how close to get to her friends and companions. Obviously it\u2019s a special bond with Yaz, because they\u2019ve spent so much time together. Who knows how it will end between the two of them?<\/p>\n \u201cBut I\u2019ve enjoyed watching the speculation.\u201d<\/p>\n Maybe, against the odds, the Doctor and Yaz can find some sort of happiness, or maybe we\u2019re in for some kind of regeneration heartache.
