And love, quite frankly.\u201d<\/p>\n And Strevens thinks this retrospective affection will also apply to showrunner Chris Chibnall, who has been in charge of the BBC sci-fi drama since 2017.<\/p>\n \u2018\u2018I love Chris, and it\u2019s been an utter honour and a privilege to go on the journey with him,\u201d he said. \u201cI think his place in the canon, and the history of Doctor Who, is assured.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was Chris who wanted to bring in a female actor as the Doctor, that was one of his prime criteria for doing the show \u2013 at a time when we didn\u2019t have Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, and all of that.<\/p>\n \u201cThat decision \u2013 back in 2015, 2016 \u2013 was still unusual, in terms of having that kind of action hero as a role model. And it proved to be a brilliant choice. Now, five years on, you go, \u2018Why was it even remarkable?\u2019 But it always takes someone to actually do it, and Chris did it.<\/p>\n \u201cWithout Chris, none of what we\u2019ve been able to do would have been possible,\u201d Strevens continued. \u201cWhatever he\u2019s doing next \u2013 and I know he\u2019s a busy boy \u2013 I think he deserves a good rest first.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause, for the showrunner of Doctor Who\u2026 my God, the responsibility is immense. It\u2019s immense. It\u2019s not just writing the scripts, it\u2019s everything that comes with it \u2013 the weight of expectation. He\u2019s borne it brilliantly well, and with class.\u201d<\/p>\n Now, with just two episodes still to air fans will just have to wait and see what Whittaker and Chibnall have planned for their big sign-off.
