It looks like there are plenty of twists and turns on the way in BritBox\u2019s upcoming \u201cmurder mystery within a murder mystery\u201d series, Magpie Murders.<\/p>\n

Based on Anthony Horowitz\u2019s novel of the same name,\u00a0the crime drama<\/a> stars Lesley Manville as Susan Ryeland, the literary editor of best-selling mystery writer Alan Conway (Conleth Hill).<\/p>\n

However, when the author hands over his last manuscript, the final chapter is nowhere to be found. The plot thickens when Conway is murdered, and Susan sets out on a quest to find the chapter \u2013 and figure out whodunnit.<\/p>\n

And a new clip from the first episode certainly sets the tone, with DS Locke (Daniel Mays) acting suspiciously cagey about Conway\u2019s death.<\/p>

In the short teaser released by BritBox UK<\/a> ahead of the meta-mystery series\u2019 launch, we see Manville and Mays\u2019 characters coming face-to-face for the first time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m trying to track down some missing pages from his last book because without them I can\u2019t publish, and if that happens my entire company, the staff I employ and 15 years of hard work will go down the drain,\u201d she explains when Locke questions why she is visiting late Conway\u2019s secretary.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn three of the books, he based a character on you,\u201d she then says in a light-bulb moment. \u201cThe dim detective. That\u2019s why you\u2019re so angry.\u201d<\/p>\n
