Season 1 followed three women who utilise forensics to uncover the truth about a deeply personal unsolved murder case, while season 2 will see the team reunite to solve \u201ca series of cruel bombings in Dundee\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Traces cast<\/a> features three female leads \u2013 Breaking Bad\u2019s Laura Fraser, Three Girls\u2019 Molly Windsor and Continuum\u2019s Jennifer Spence \u2013 in addition to Compston.<\/p>\n The tense series reached a shock conclusion in the season 1 finale, but the show\u2019s renewal means that the forensic team will be returning for a different, second case.<\/p>\n The crime drama is something of a flagship show for Alibi, which recently branched out further into scripted television with Nicola Walker\u2019s series\u00a0Annika<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Scotland-set series originally aired in 2019, but it gained further popularity when it aired on BBC One later, with 6.7 million tuning in to watch the first episode.<\/p>\n Read on for everything you need to know about Traces season 2.<\/p>\n Yes, Alibi has announced that Traces will return for another six-part run this month.<\/p>\n Yes, Traces season 2 will begin on Tuesday 15th February 2022 on Alibi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n On 2nd March 2021, Martin Compston shared an update<\/a> that he was \u201cback tracing\u201d, alongside a shot of the cover page for episode 1.<\/p>\n RED Production Company also tweeted: \u201cWe had a great readthrough for <\/span>#Traces<\/span> series 2 this afternoon, looking forward to getting started.\u201d<\/span><\/p> Emma Hedges (Three Girls\u2019 Molly Windsor), Prof. Sarah Gordon (Breaking Bad\u2019s Laura Fraser) and Prof. Kathy Torrance (Continuum\u2019s Jennifer Spence) are the three main leads in the Traces cast<\/a>, and will all return for season 2.<\/p>\n Speaking about the female-led series<\/a>, Fraser told RadioTimes.com<\/a>: \u201cThis wasn\u2019t even 50\/50 \u2013 it was actually predominantly female and I really appreciated it, it felt so comfortable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n She added: \u201cI would love to see more of that. It\u2019d be great if the pendulums swings, and then balances out so it\u2019s 50\/50 \u2013 that would be incredible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Emma\u2019s on-off love interest, the troubled Daniel<\/a> (Martin Compston), will return too.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s just a flip from Steve [Arnott, my Line of Duty character],\u201d Compston told RadioTimes.com<\/strong>. \u201cThe thing with Daniel is, he just seems like a nice guy in a bad situation, and things are getting out of control for him.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhereas Steve\u2019s completely driven by ambition and his own ego, Dan just seems a likeable guy who\u2019s trying to do right by people, so there\u2019s definitely that contrast, which is appealing to play.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n *Warning: spoilers ahead for season 1*<\/strong><\/p>\n Traces season 1 finished with Emma finally discovering who murdered her mother, Marie, after her unsolved cold case resurfaced in an unexpected twist at the beginning of the series.<\/p>\n The culprit was revealed to be Daniel\u2019s father Phil MacAfee, who was married but previously having an affair with Marie\u2019s best friend, Izzy. When Marie called him out on it, in support of her friend, he killed her.<\/p>\n Despite the shock reveal, the season ended on a more peaceful note, as Emma attended her mother\u2019s funeral before reconciling with Daniel.<\/p>\n Alibi said of season 2: \u201cAudiences will be reunited with the forensic team as they work to uncover the criminal responsible for a string of bombings in Dundee.<\/p>\n \u201cTensions in the city mount as people begin to anticipate when and where the next bombing will take place.\u201d<\/p>\n Traces season 2 will begin on Tuesday 15th February 2022 on Alibi.
