Downton Abbey\u2019s Tuppence Middleton has spoken about the \u201cbalancing act\u201d required for her latest role in ITV thriller Our House, which takes place over two separate timelines.<\/p>\n

Middleton plays the lead character of Fi, a woman estranged from her husband (played by Line of Duty<\/a>\u2018s Martin Compston) who returns home one day to find all her possessions gone, and strangers moving into \u201ctheir\u201d new home.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a press event attended by\u00a0RadioTimes.com<\/a>, Middleton said that \u201cthe appeal of taking the part\u201d in the four-part drama was that she\u2019d \u201cget to play these two contrasting storylines\u201d set in the past and present-day, but that the two timelines also posed a challenge.<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cYou have this present-day thriller, which just kind of unravels and becomes more and more incredible as it goes along. And then you have this tragic love story. And you\u2019re sort of charting the breakdown of this relationship. And really, for me, it was about making the differences between those [timelines] clear and also charting the journey in a way that felt like you were keeping the momentum going without giving the game away too soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a real balancing act of trying to work out where you are in this character\u2019s headspace at a certain time, because a lot of what happens to Fi during the course of the four episodes is really quite awful, and awful in different ways\u2026 Every day was a challenge because there was just so much happening to Fi,\u201d she said, adding: \u201cI\u2019d say just the whole shoot was a challenge, in a really great way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on the novel of the same name by Louise Candlish, the series also stars\u00a0Rupert Penry-Jones (The Drowning), Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You), and Buket Komur (Honour).<\/p>\n

ITV recently revealed the Our House trailer<\/a>, which opens with Fi making the shocking discovery about her marital home.<\/p>\n
