<\/p>
A recently confirmed romantic connection between the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and her companion Yaz (Mandip Gill) was not originally planned, it has been reported.<\/p>\n
Following years of speculation, the latest Doctor Who<\/a> New Year special Eve of the Daleks finally saw Yaz admit the true nature of her feelings for the Doctor, but fans were somewhat divided on the execution of this subplot.<\/p>\n Some argued that Yaz gay awakening wasn\u2019t too little too late<\/a>, while others felt that not enough groundwork had been laid toward this development, with the consequence being that it didn\u2019t feel completely authentic.<\/p>\n According to a fan in attendance<\/a> at Doctor Who convention Gallifrey One, which is held annually in Los Angeles, executive producer Matt Strevens shed light on why the twist might have felt sudden, revealing it was not part of the original plan for Whittaker\u2019s era.<\/p> \u201cI didn\u2019t know what Thasmin was,\u201d he reportedly said. \u201cJodie said after the first season, \u2018oh there\u2019s speculation out there\u2019, but we hadn\u2019t really thought about it.\u201d<\/p>\n The attending fan reported that Strevens said that he \u201cforgot about\u201d the Thasmin craze after initially learning about it in the run-up to series 12, but helped incorporate it into the canon story during series 13\u2019s COVID-induced restructure.<\/p>\n \u201c[Thasmin] was something that [Chris Chibnall] wanted to bring in and sort of play with it,\u201d he added. \u201cYaz is not sure about what these feelings she\u2019s having are\u2026 yeah, there\u2019s more to come.\u201d<\/p>\n Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
