{"id":11437,"date":"2022-02-22T12:31:43","date_gmt":"2022-02-22T11:31:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/?p=1589232"},"modified":"2022-02-22T12:31:43","modified_gmt":"2022-02-22T11:31:43","slug":"the-a-word-spin-off-ralph-katie-begins-filming-confirms-returning-cast","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/radiotimes\/rss_feed\/the-a-word-spin-off-ralph-katie-begins-filming-confirms-returning-cast\/","title":{"rendered":"The A Word spin-off Ralph &amp; Katie begins filming, confirms returning cast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"><\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Patrick Cremona\n                \t\t<\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Tuesday, 22 February 2022 at 12:00 am<\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>BBC One has confirmed that filming on The A Word spin-off Ralph &amp; Katie has begun in Manchester and the Lake District.<\/p>\n<p>The series will continue the story of Ralph and Katie Wilson, with the BBC revealing that each of the six episodes will feature a different story focusing on the domestic challenges the couple face \u2013 \u201cissues faced by all newlyweds, but with an added ingredient in the mix being that the couple have Down\u2019s syndrome\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Leon Harrop and Sarah Gordy both reprise their roles for the series, while other returning faces include Pooky Quesnel as Ralph\u2019s mum Louise, Nigel Betts and Sherry Baines as Katie\u2019s parents Steve and Clare, and Matt Greenwood as Tom.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, new cast members joining for the spin-off include Craig Cash (The Royle Family) as Brian,\u00a0Dylan Brady (Get Even) as Dan,\u00a0Jamie Marie Leary (Traces) as Emma, and Sam Retford (Ackley Bridge) as Gary.<\/p> <p>The A Word scribe Peter Bowker \u2013 who created the series \u2013 returns as lead writer, while the team that has penned the scripts alongside him is made up entirely of new and emerging disabled writers.<\/p>\n<p>Those writers are Amy Trigg, Annalisa Dinnella, Genevieve Barr, Tom Wentworth\u00a0and\u00a0Lizzie Watson.\u00a0<b><u\/><u\/><\/b><\/p>\n<p><u\/>Speaking as production commenced, <u\/>Bowker said:<b>\u00a0<\/b>\u201cThe writing team have delivered a series of scripts that are full of joy, humour and authenticity. It will be exciting to see the wonderful cast bring them to life under the direction of the force of nature that is Jordan Hogg.\u201d<u\/>\u00a0<u\/><\/p>\n<p>BAFTA-winning series director Hogg, who is himself disabled, added: \u201cWe\u2019re embarking on something that\u2019s never been attempted in our industry, we\u2019re changing the world.\u201d<u\/><\/p>\n<p><b>Ralph &amp; Katie will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
