Frazer Hines and Wendy Padbury are returning as the Second Doctor\u2019s companions Jamie McCrimmon and Zoe Heriot in a new series of audio adventures from Big Finish \u2013 and RadioTimes.com<\/a> can now exclusively reveal some additional cast members.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Emma Samms (Dynasty), Simone Lahbib (Bad Girls), and comedian Rufus Hound will all have voice roles in the latest volume of The Companion Chronicles, which is due for release in April 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Samms, who will play Anya in the series, said that radio drama is \u201cone of [her] favourite things to do\u201d and explained that although she had known Hines for many years this was the first time she had worked with him.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I read the script and knowing that he was playing both of those parts [Jamie McCrimmon and The Doctor], I assumed they would be recorded separately,\u201d she said. \u201cTo see him switch back and forth like he does is like a masterclass. He\u2019s unbelievably skilled and I\u2019m still in awe of the fact that he\u2019s able to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

She picked out working with a Dalek as a highlight, and also teased some details about her character, explaining: \u201cAnya has had a tough life. Poor Anya. It\u2019s really done terrible things to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer experiences have damaged her and she\u2019s been able to get away with hiding her methods and plan from all the people around her. So, she\u2019s got to be quite good at it. I really wanted to hide it from the audience as well, so that they wouldn\u2019t have a clue as to what actually was going on because it would be a shame to give it away.\u201d<\/p>

Meanwhile, Lahbib will play two characters \u2013 R\u00f3is\u00edn Hunter and Jamie\u2019s Grandmother \u2013 and said she was delighted to take part.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a huge, long-time fan of Doctor Who, I was absolutely thrilled to get the call from my agent to play opposite the Second Doctor\u2019s companion, Jamie McCrimmon, played by the lovely Frazer Hines, in a brilliant new episode The Phantom Piper written for Big Finish Productions,\u201d she said. \u201cI had an absolute ball beginning to end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finally, Hound will voice The Monk, and said that \u201crecording this episode was a complete joy\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy first reaction upon reading the script was \u2018this is rather lovely; this is one where the Monk rather takes the lead\u2019,\u201d he said. \u201cOf course, by the end of it he\u2019s been beaten into second place but it was very pleasing to do a story where the Monk is the one putting his best foot forward rather than playing second fiddle.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Companion Chronicles: The Second Doctor \u2013 Volume 3\u00a0<\/span><\/span>is already available to pre-order and is made up of four adventures. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The first two \u2013 <\/span><\/span>The Death of the Daleks\u00a0<\/span><\/span>by George Mann<\/span><\/span> and The Phantom Piper\u00a0<\/span><\/span>by Martin Day<\/span><\/span> \u2013 star Hines, while the second pair \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/span>The Prints of Denmark <\/span><\/span>by Paul Morris<\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span>The Deepest Tragedian <\/span><\/span>by Penelope Faith<\/span><\/span> \u2013 see Padbury take centre stage.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
