The series remains \u201cpretty close\u201d to the novel, Halfpenny told RadioTimes.com<\/a>: \u201cTowards the end there are a few little changes here and there but other than that, I would say it was it was pretty close.\u201d<\/p> Speaking about how it feels to bring TM Logan\u2019s supremely popular book to Channel 5, Halfpenny said: \u201cIt\u2019s always difficult when somebody loves a book that\u2019s been adapted because you can\u2019t get the amount of detail and nuance in a drama that you get in a 600-page book, otherwise it\u2019d be a 20-episode drama. So I think people do always feel like, \u2018Oh, you didn\u2019t put the part in that was my favourite.\u2019 But there just has to be a choice when you\u2019re adapting something and the story has to keep moving.<\/p>\n \u201cWith books, you read a lot about the characters\u2019 internal worlds. That\u2019s why we love novels. We love to know what people are thinking. But with drama, it\u2019s visual; you show, not tell. It doesn\u2019t make me nervous, but I think I\u2019m very realistic about people holding books very, very dearly in their hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n Over the four episodes, there are multiple dramatic developments as the thriller progresses towards its shocking conclusion, which was a challenge for Halfpenny, even as a veteran of the gogglebox.<\/p>\n \u201cMy body doesn\u2019t know that it\u2019s not real so my shoulders are really tense,\u201d she explained. \u201cYour breathing gets really shallow. You feel exhausted at the end of the day\u2026 because you\u2019ve been keeping emotionally at a very high intensity. You\u2019re shouting or you\u2019re screaming.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s what my job is, but thrillers are always really, really taxing because you\u2019re playing a level of anxiety almost all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n Catch The Holiday on 1st March at 9pm on Channel 5.
