The Marvel movies have brought so many of Peter Parker\u2019s iconic foes to the big-screen over the years, including two different iterations each of Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin and Venom.<\/p>\n

But one villain who has never appeared in any superhero movie is Sergei Kravinoff, aka Kraven the Hunter,<\/a> the Russian-born predator from the pages of Marvel comics who, just like Venom<\/a> (Tom Hardy) and Morbius<\/a> (Jared Leto), was first introduced in Marvel Comics as an enemy of Spider-Man.<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s all about to change with Sony\u2019s upcoming Spider-Man spin-off film Kraven the Hunter, which now has an official release date.<\/p>

Few details about the upcoming movie have been made public so far, but scriptwriter Richard Wenk said back in 2018 that the villain will come face-to-face with Spider-Man in the upcoming movie, which he added would be\u00a0based on the famous comic book storyline, Kraven\u2019s Last Hunt.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just starting it. It\u2019s an interesting world. A great character,\u201d Wenk told\u00a0Discussing Film (<\/em>via\u00a0Comicbook<\/a>). \u201cIt\u2019s going to adhere very closely to the lore of Kraven the Hunter. Aaron Taylor-Johnson<\/a> has been cast in the titular role alongside West Side Story<\/a> star Ariana DeBose, who Deadline<\/a> reports will be portraying the role of voodoo priestess Calypso Ezili, the supervillain who imbues Kraven with the powers which make him such a formidable enemy.<\/p>\n

Kraven the Hunter won\u2019t be premiering for quite some time and currently has a release date of 13th January 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The movie was first given the go-ahead back in 2018.<\/p>\n

Towards the end of January 2022, it was reported that filming was set to begin soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cProduction start dates have always been tentative and now, more than ever, it\u2019s important to keep that in mind, but assuming no delays, it sounds like\u00a0Kraven the Hunter\u00a0will begin production in the UK next month,\u201d\u00a0Murphy\u2019s Multiverse<\/a>\u00a0reported. \u201cGiven the film\u2019s January 2023 release date, it\u2019s a very sensible timeline for principal photography, leaving plenty of time for any additional photography, which is always factored into these projects.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Tenet) has been cast in the titular role.<\/p>\n

Kraven the Hunter is one of Spider-Man\u2019s deadliest enemies \u2013 and the perfect choice for a live-action face off with Spider-Man.<\/p>\n

But as for which Spider-Man will be a part of the movie, there has been no indication that Tom Holland<\/a>, Andrew Garfield, and\/or Tobey Maguire will be playing a part in it, so fans will have to wait for more information about this.<\/p>\n

On the bright side, other details have emerged about the movie\u2019s casting, with Deadline<\/a> reporting that West Side Story star Ariana DeBose<\/a> will be joining the cast as\u00a0Calypso Ezili, who is a long-time lover and partner to the titular villain.<\/p>\n

Joining Taylor-Johnson and DeBose is Fred Hechinher (The White Lotus, Pam & Tommy) as the title character\u2019s half-brother Dmitri Nikolaievich Smerdyakov, aka the Chameleon.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile,\u00a0Russell Crowe has joined the cast in an as yet undisclosed role, though it\u2019s thought that he\u2019ll be playing a member of Kraven\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

Kraven The Hunter plot<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Kraven the Hunter is being developed in complete secrecy and details about the plot are few and far in between.<\/p>\n

However, Sony is expected to give the villain the same treatment as Venom and the upcoming Morbius movie, meaning Kraven the Hunter will be an origin story that will portray the famous Marvel character as a kind of anti-hero, with the possibility of cross-overs with Sony\u2019s other Marvel properties.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s more, given the casting details, we can guess the origin story will focus on the villain\u2019s family and explore his human side.<\/p>\n

Speaking about his plans for the script back in 2018, Wenk suggested the film would draw its inspiration from the famous comic book storyline by writer J.M DeMatteis, titled Kraven\u2019s Last Hunt, in which the villain dons Spidey\u2019s outfit in an attempt to prove he\u2019s a better hero.<\/p>\n
