New Marvel Disney Plus series Moon Knight<\/a> stars Oscar Isaac as its titular hero, a troubled mercenary whose identity is split between two personalities: grizzled tough guy Marc Spector and diffident nerd Steven Grant, both vying for control as they try to save the world from a supernatural threat.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to imagine anyone other than Isaac in the challenging central role \u2013 but the actor has now revealed that he had serious doubts about signing on to another massive franchise so soon after exiting Star Wars.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, it was all reservations,\u201d Isaac told RadioTimes.com<\/a>. \u201cIt was months of smashing my head against a stone wall like, \u2018Is this the right thing to do?\u2019 I thought, \u2018I shouldn\u2019t do it. Maybe maybe\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI had just kinda got out of the whole, you know, big machinery of Star Wars. And I was like, \u2018I just really want to do character studies. And I don\u2019t know.\u2019\u201d<\/p>

However, the more Isaac thought about the story that Moon Knight could tell, the harder it was to get out of his head.<\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t help but feel that there was this opportunity there,\u201d he told us.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the risk, sometimes you have an idea of what you want to do. And then something comes to you. And I just kept thinking about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then suddenly Steven Grant started appearing for me, and I started doing it around the house for my kids and my wife, and they kept asking me to do it. And I was like, \u2018Alright, well, maybe there\u2019s something here.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Apparently, Isaac\u2019s fumbling, British take on the character was radically different from the version Marvel had pitched him, but when he suggested the changes Marvel supremo Kevin Feige was enthusiastic.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t necessarily written that way at all,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd so I thought, \u2018OK, well, let me see what Kevin says about this.\u2019 And so I had a meeting with Kevin, I said, \u2018This is how I\u2019d want to do it.\u2019 And he said, \u2018Yeah, OK, go for it.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it\u2019s funny, because afterwards he told me they didn\u2019t know what the hell I was doing. And they weren\u2019t sure it was going to work at all. But you know, in the end I\u2019m glad we did that, because everyone says it kind of makes the show.\u201d<\/p>\n
