HBO is returning to the Gilded Age.<\/p>\n

The network officially announced a second-season renewal for Julian Fellowes\u2019 new period drama<\/a> just weeks into its debut run.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hardly surprising: the drama<\/a> has been a huge success, with the debut episode of the series, which aired in January, reported to be the network\u2019s best Monday night debut in the ratings since the Emmy-winning Chernobyl<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first season of\u00a0The Gilded Age<\/a> is the beginning of an epic story that introduced a fascinating world full of intriguing characters,\u201d Universal Television President Erin Underhill said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe scope of Julian\u2019s vision is ambitious, and we\u2019re thrilled to continue to explore the depths of this fascinating era with HBO.\u201d<\/p>\n

Set during the titular American Gilded Age of the late-1800s, the show follows Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson), an aspiring writer who infiltrates her wealthy aunts\u2019 clan of railway tycoons in New York City and swiftly becomes embroiled in a feud between old-vs-new ideologies.<\/p>\n

With a star-studded cast including Carrie Coon, Cynthia Nixon<\/a>, Morgan Spector, and more<\/a>, season 1 wrapped up on 21st March and fans will no doubt be clamouring for the next instalment.<\/p>

Viewers who were swept up by season 1\u2019s fantastic backdrops and tense politics of 19th Century New York\u2019s high society can breathe a sigh of relief \u2013 The Gilded Age is officially returning for a second season.<\/p>\n

HBO broke the news in an Instagram post back in February 2022, shortly after Netflix dropped the trailer for rival historical drama Bridgerton season 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cJulian Fellowes and the entire Gilded Age family have thoroughly captivated us with their tale of late 19th century New York City extravagance,\u201d said Francesca Orsi, executive VP of programming at HBO, at the time.<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cAlong with our partners at Universal Television, we couldn\u2019t be prouder to embark on a season two journey with this extraordinarily talented team.\u201d<\/p>\n

While we do know The Gilded Age is returning for another season, sadly we don\u2019t yet know when it will arrive.<\/p>\n

Season 1 was 10 years in the making and originally meant to be developed with NBC, before HBO took over the reins.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was one of those things: survive and adapt,\u201d said executive producer David Crockett (via\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe kept going,\u201d added Fellowes. \u201cI\u2019m really pleased we got it done and pleased with what we did.\u201d<\/p>\n

With such a star-studded cast<\/a>, it could be difficult to find a time for season 2 that would work for the entire cast\u2019s schedule.<\/p>\n
