Emily Maitlis has officially endorsed the \u201cterrific\u201d Clive Myrie, who is the current frontrunner to replace her as host on the BBC\u2019s Newsnight.<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a> at the Radio Times Covers Party<\/strong> on Monday night, Maitlis was asked about the possibility of newsreader and Mastermind host Myrie taking over her former role.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cI just think Clive\u2019s terrific. I think he\u2019s done so well. And I\u2019m sure the team would give him a really, really warm welcome because they are the best in the business.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it\u2019s the loveliest \u2013 it\u2019s the loveliest [of] gangs, loveliest group of people. So I hope for his sake he gets it, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maitlis and the BBC\u2019s former North America editor Jon Sopel both announced in February that they will be leaving the broadcaster to join Global.<\/p>\n

The pair will front a major new podcast together for Global Player and will also host a new show on LBC.<\/p>\n

Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/strong>, Maitlis said that she anticipated a \u201ctough learning curve\u201d on the new podcast, but that she was excited for the editorial freedom Global has given her and her colleague.<\/p>

\u201c[Global has] given us the platform and the financial backing to do something with a lot of editorial freedom. And so that\u2019s just really exciting for us,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, all the mistakes we make will be our own. So it\u2019ll be a tough learning curve. But yeah, it\u2019s really exciting.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to invite all world figures on. If you\u2019re a world figure and you\u2019re listening to this, don\u2019t feel that you\u2019re excluded. You\u2019re very much included. Yeah, we\u2019d love them all.\u201d<\/p>\n
