Chatting to RadioTimes.com<\/a> about new Channel 5<\/a> psychological thriller Deadline<\/a>, star James D\u2019Arcy, who plays investigative journalist James Alden, said: \u201cI feel like I\u2019m very familiar with watching thrillers but this one, I just couldn\u2019t quite place where it was going to go next.\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u2019s not wrong.<\/p>\n

Natalie Varga, played by Peaky Blinders\u2019<\/a> Charlie Murphy, stands accused of murdering her husband, and the public consensus is that she\u2019s guilty, hence the \u2018Black Widow\u2019 moniker.<\/p>\n

But at the end of episode 1, Natalie delivers a fresh piece of information that blows the case wide open: her brother Oliver, who she previously claimed had died four years ago after taking his own life, is very much alive and<\/em> responsible for the murder.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt opens up so many other questions as to who Natalie really is, and what she\u2019s come from,\u201d Murphy told RadioTimes.com<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

D\u2019Arcy added: \u201cJust when you thought you were on solid ground, the rug is ripped from underneath you in a way that you just didn\u2019t see coming. I remember when I first read that twist, the first of many twists in the show, I remember thinking, \u2018Wait, what? What?! Oh, it\u2019s not even the same show that I thought it was.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Murphy echoed that: \u201cYou\u2019re not just dealing with, \u2018Did she, didn\u2019t she?\u2019 It\u2019s a complete curveball as to who the hell [she is] and what the hell is going on?<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s just full of contradictions, which is a joy to play. And she\u2019s very good at compartmentalising parts of her life.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout the interviews that happen within the show, you start weeding out little pieces of information, that she has come from a very different background to where she is when we meet her at the beginning. But that\u2019s eked out over time.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd characters like Mrs Molnar<\/a><\/span>, there\u2019s such an air of mystery in terms of their dynamic. It\u2019s just so alluring.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

D\u2019Arcy drew a comparison between the character of James and Emily Blunt\u2019s Kate Macer in Sicario, \u201cwho\u2019s constantly trying to find out what on earth is happening\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

He added: \u201cAll these other people around [James] are projecting one thing, and then actually [the truth is] something completely different. And then it\u2019s something completely different again.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd James has his own secret history that feeds into some of that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
