The Loki<\/a> actor \u2013 who also stars in the upcoming adaptation of The Essex Serpent<\/a> for the same streamer \u2013 will play the central role of real-life adventurer Henry Worsley in the newly-announced series.<\/p>\n Adapted from David Grann\u2019s non-fiction bestseller<\/a>, The White Darkness will tell the true story of British polar explorer Worsley, who journeyed to Antarctica in the footsteps Ernest Shackleton.<\/p>\n Apple TV Plus describe Worsley as a \u201cdevoted husband and father, a former soldier, a man of deep honor and sacrifice, but also a man deeply obsessed with adventure\u201d, which results in an \u201cepic journey crossing Antarctica on foot\u201d, according to the official synopsis.<\/p>\n It continues: \u201cThis is a spellbinding story of courage, love, family and the extremes of human capacity.\u201d<\/p> In The Essex Serpent, Hiddleston plays Will Ransom, a Victorian-era community leader who meets the intelligent, newly-widowed Cora (Homeland\u2019s Claire Danes), the show\u2019s protagonist.<\/p>\n In the series, Cora arrives at the small village of Aldwinter in Essex, ready for a fresh start after her husband\u2019s death released her from an abusive marriage.<\/p>\n However, she soon becomes obsessed with the local rumours about a mythical creator, called the Essex Serpent, and which has supposedly returned to the area.<\/p>\n Other cast members included Clem\u00e9nce Po\u00e9sy (Tenet) \u2013 who\u2019ll play Stella Ransom, wife of Will \u2013Frank Dillane (Fear the Walking Dead), Hayley Squires (Adult Material) and Jamael Westman (Anne Boleyn).<\/p>\n The Essex Serpent will be available to stream on Apple TV Plus<\/a> in May.
