Tributes have been paid for stand-up comedian and actor Gilbert Gottfried, who died yesterday aged 67 after a long health battle.<\/p>\n

The news was announced by his family, who shared a statement to his personal Twitter account accompanied by a picture of the late entertainer.<\/p>\n

The caption reads: \u201cWe are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert\u2019s honour.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gottfried\u2019s publicist later confirmed to The Washington Post<\/a> that he had died of complications from myotonic dystrophy type 2, a form of muscular dystrophy, which he had been suffering with for some time.<\/p>\n
