Idris Elba has wrapped filming on the feature-length Luther movie<\/a>, which he has ominously described as a \u201cgrim shoot\u201d.<\/p>\n

The actor, who plays DCI John Luther in the BBC drama and upcoming film version on Netflix, hinted that his character found himself in some uncomfortable scenarios during the shoot \u2013 which sounds like it could have a very dark storyline.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just finished filming about three weeks ago, it was a grim shoot. Oh my gosh,\u201d he said, in an interview on SiriusXM.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m reading the script and then, \u2018He does what? Wow, this is incredible!\u2019 And then I\u2019m actually doing it. I find myself freezing in some dark cave or something, but no spoilers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>When it was pointed out that bad things happen to Luther, Elba agreed: \u201cThis is the thing!\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\""advert-wrapper\" advert-wrapper--outstream=\"\">\n<p>He went on to say of the film: \u201cIf you watch the last season, it picks up after that. But for new audiences that haven\u2019t seen it, I think the film is a whole story. Even if you don\u2019t know Luther, who he is, or anything about him, the film attempts to be whole for a new audience. \u201d<\/p> <p>Talking to <a href=\""https:\/\/RadioTimes.com"\">RadioTimes.com<\/a>, Luther creator Neil Cross revealed back in June 2021 that <a href=\""https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/movies\/luther-movie-neil-cross-newsupdate-exclusive\/"\">a film budget would allow the Luther universe to expand<\/a>, while staying true to the spirit of the TV show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the thing with Luther is never to rule out anything,\u201d he said. \u201cAll we\u2019ve ever wanted to do is, within the parameters that we\u2019re given, make the best possible show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we\u2019ve been able to do [with the movie] \u2013 having delivered every episode of Luther on budgets which are comically small \u2013 is to have a wider canvas and a bigger budget to tell the kind of stories that we we\u2019ve always wanted to be able to tell. And we\u2019ve really been given the opportunity \u2013 while staying entirely true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Netflix is yet to confirm Luther\u2019s release date.
