With Legend of the Sea Devils<\/a> having bowed on Easter Sunday, Jodie Whittaker has just one episode left as the star of Doctor Who<\/a> \u2013 and though the show\u2019s latest instalment didn\u2019t dwell too heavily on her imminent departure, it did contain one subtle nod to what\u2019s next.<\/p>\n

Series boss Chris Chibnall \u2013 who will exit the show alongside Whittaker \u2013 had previously described the Easter special as a \u201cbig standalone Bank Holiday action romp<\/a>\u2026\u00a0before we go into the big epic battle for survival with Jodie\u2019s final episode\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sure enough, the episode didn\u2019t follow up directly on the ominous message that the Doctor (Whittaker) received at the close of the most recent series \u2013 in The Vanquishers<\/a>, the embodiment of Time (also played by Whittaker) warned, \u201cYour time is heading to its end. Nothing is forever. No regeneration, no life. Beware of the forces that mass against you\u2026 and their master.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Doctor didn\u2019t share this warning with her companions Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Dan (John Bishop), but it\u2019s probable that thoughts of her imminent demise might\u2019ve played into the Doctor\u2019s reluctance to enter into a romantic relationship with Yaz<\/a>.<\/p>
