After two years off the air, the British Soap Awards are set to make a comeback in 2022 with a couple of key differences.<\/p>\n
Voting opens on Tuesday 19th April at 10am, and Phillip Schofield will return to host the live ceremony in June.<\/p>\n
ITV will once again air the ceremony, but the broadcaster has announced a big change for the awards.<\/p>\n
Much like the BRIT Awards<\/a>, the British Soap Awards will be making its trophies gender-neutral.<\/p>\n This means that instead of giving out Best Actor and Best Actress awards, there will now be one category that includes all genders, with the new Best Leading Performer<\/strong> category one of three voted for by the public.<\/p> The others are Best British Soap and Best Family, which is also a new category for 2022.<\/p>\n Viewers will have their work cut out this year, as it\u2019s been quite an exciting one for our favourite soaps.<\/p>\n EastEnders<\/a> saw a dramatic return, Coronation\u00a0Street<\/a> a horrific hate crime, a revenge plot in Hollyoaks<\/a> and, of course, Paige Sandhu\u2019s turn as Emmerdale<\/a>\u2018s latest murderous villain Meena Jutla.<\/p>\n Guess who’s back! #soapawards2022<\/a> pic.twitter.com\/MYwG340m3T<\/a><\/p>\u2014 British Soap Awards (@SoapAwards) April 11, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote>
