Kelly Macdonald has revealed that she doesn\u2019t expect a return to Line of Duty<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The finale of the sixth season of the hit BBC crime series saw the actress\u2019 character DCI Joanne Davidson end up in a secret location and apparently with a new love interest and even a dog.<\/p>\n

However, given that other leads \u2013 namely Keeley Hawes \u2013\u00a0 <\/span>returned for more episodes, does Macdonald see her character returning in the future?<\/p>\n

The Scottish actress discussed the show with RadioTimes.com<\/a> when being interviewed for her new film Operation Mincemeat<\/a>.<\/p>

When asked about a potential return, Macdonald said: \u201cI don\u2019t think my character will be back. I suppose it\u2019s a possibility at some point.\u201d<\/p>\n

The series had been in production while Macdonald was also working on Operation Mincemeat amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, proving to be a strange time for the actress.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to say that Line of Duty for me was a very odd experience because of COVID,\u201d revealed Macdonald. \u201cIt was strange days and it feels there\u2019s life before COVID and life after, and Line of Duty was right at that point for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Macdonald\u2019s Operation Mincemeat co-star Penelope Wilton recalled Macdonald learning lines for the series while working on the film too, noting that Line of Duty offered Macdonald a \u201cdifficult script\u201d.<\/p>\n

During the interview, Macdonald also recalled how she got the part of Jean Leslie in the new World War II film, which explores an espionage operation by British secret services to trick the Nazi regime.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m friends with Colin [Firth] and we had been for lunch and he was telling me \u2013 because I know John Madden as well, the director, through Colin just over the years \u2013 and he said, \u2018Oh, John\u2019s making this film and I think we\u2019re going to do it.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd he told me the story. And I was saying, \u2018It\u2019s just fascinating\u2019 and, \u2018You have to definitely do it\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Macdonald then explained that a few weeks later she got a call asking her to join the film and she noted she was \u201cthrilled\u201d to take part.<\/p>\n
