It\u2019s not just Picard<\/a> bringing a fan-favourite Star Trek captain back to TV, with new kid-friendly animation Star Trek: Prodigy<\/a> adding a version of Voyager\u2019s Captain Kathryn Janeway to aid the show\u2019s nascent crew in their early adventures.<\/p>\n

Of course, the Janeway we see in Prodigy is (for the most part) a hologram, designed to offer help and training for new recruits \u2013 but this didn\u2019t stop actor Kate Mulgrew (who reprises her Voyager role) from worrying about what the return could mean for her character\u2019s legacy more than two decades after her time on the show ended.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey approached me first in 2019, I think,\u201d Mulgrew told RadioTimes.com<\/a>. \u201cTheir idea was, you know, her mentorship would bring in the older audience, and then they would take their children as a consequence.<\/p>

\u201cOh, yes, I had hesitation \u2013 I have to be frank about that \u2013 because it just lives within me,\u201d she added. \u201cAt no point does it subside or abate. It\u2019s always a sort of constant, and is a very significant part of my professional life. And so I thought, \u2018Wow, do I want to do that?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

However, when she put the question to those close to her their response was unanimous \u2013 she had to bring Janeway to life once more, for one crucial reason.<\/p>\n

\u201cI started to talk to my friends and my counsel about it, and everybody said, \u2018You\u2019re crazy if you don\u2019t think of bringing this to that terribly important demographic \u2013 the children.<\/p>\n
