Coronation Street<\/a> star Jack P Shepherd has spoken about his future on the ITV soap, saying he would be \u201csilly to leave\u201d the job he adores.<\/p>\n

Shepherd has played David Platt since he was just 12 years old, joining Corrie back in 2000. As David grew up on the cobbles, he became the ultimate teenage terror. As a youngster, he pushed mum Gail (Helen Worth) down the stairs, embarked on a rampage across the Street and destroyed sister Sarah\u2019s (Tina O\u2019Brien) wedding.<\/p>\n

And speaking to Inside Soap<\/a>, the star notes something that we\u2019ve all noticed in the present day \u2013 David\u2019s son Max Turner (Paddy Bever) seems to be following in his footsteps<\/a>, despite the fact that these days, David is firmly on the straight and narrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cI suppose Max is getting the storylines that I used to get as a kid, and I\u2019m sort of playing out Gail\u2019s storylines now,\u201d Shepherd muses. He also adds that he\u2019s thrilled to be continuing the legacy started by his on-screen mum.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut what an amazing achievement to be turning into Gail, because she\u2019s one of the best-loved characters in the whole show.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s second on the all-time amount of episode counts, just behind Bill Roache [who plays Corrie\u2019s longest serving resident, Ken Barlow], which is great. So, to be compared to Gail is a huge honour in my eyes.\u201d<\/div>\n

Asked about his 22 year career on the cobbles, Shepherd has a simple answer. \u201cIt\u2019s the people, as boring as that sounds,\u201d he replies.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you like the people you work with and they make you laugh, you come away thinking, \u2018That was fun, let\u2019s do it again tomorrow\u2019. It\u2019s only when you\u2019re unhappy at work that you leave, and I\u2019m not.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople want to go off and branch out into other things, and that\u2019s fine.
