{"id":14529,"date":"2022-04-28T01:01:33","date_gmt":"2022-04-27T23:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/?p=1633844"},"modified":"2022-04-28T01:25:27","modified_gmt":"2022-04-27T23:25:27","slug":"bbc-four-to-broadcast-our-friends-in-the-north-to-mark-centenary","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/radiotimes\/rss_feed\/bbc-four-to-broadcast-our-friends-in-the-north-to-mark-centenary\/","title":{"rendered":"BBC Four to broadcast Our Friends in the North to mark centenary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"><\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Lauren Morris\n                \t\t<\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Thursday, 28 April 2022 at 12:00 am<\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>BBC Four is revisiting a number of classic dramas \u2013 including the BAFTA-winning Our Friends in the North \u2013 to celebrate 100 years of the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>Starting from 25th May, the channel is opening up a new weekly slot, dedicated to exclusive screenings of seminal shows, including those featured in the BFI\u2019s list of 100 landmark BBC TV programmes that \u201cchanged the face of television\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Every Wednesday, BBC Four will explore the BBC\u2019s historic archive of content by airing influential dramas, including Jeanette Winterson\u2019s semi-autobiographical piece Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, 1982\u2019s The Boys from the Blackstuff, drama documentary A Man from the Sun, Hanif Kureishi\u2019s Buddha of Suburbia and Graham Reid\u2019s acclaimed trilogy The Billy Plays.<\/p> <p>One of the most recognisable shows to take over the slot is Newcastle-based drama Our Friends in the North, which established the careers of Christopher Eccleston, Gina McKee, Daniel Craig and Mark Strong and followed four friends over a period of three decades.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC 100 Executive Editor James Stirling said in a statement: \u201cThe BFI\u2019s expert team of curators have produced a fascinating list of BBC TV programmes that have transformed broadcasting over the last 100 years, both across the UK and around the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBBC Four will delve into the BBC\u2019s library of rich content to share a selection of the boundary-pushing and era-defining dramas from the BFI\u2019s list with audiences throughout centenary year with a new Wednesday night slot.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"&quot;twitter-tweet&quot;\" data-dnt=\"&quot;true&quot;\"><p lang=\"&quot;en&quot;\" dir=\"&quot;ltr&quot;\">Meet the stars and see tomorrow&#8217;s hits today ???? <br\/><br\/>The <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/twitter.com\/BFI?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&quot;\">@BFI<\/a> &amp; Radio Times Television Festival returns to London\u2019s Southbank 20 &#8211; 22 May 2022!
