You\u2019re not taking it as some youth serum, you\u2019re taking it to feel normal!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the health benefits of HRT, she continued: \u201cThe longer you take it [HRT], the more significant the reduction of risk is to Alzheimer\u2019s, dementia, Parkinson\u2019s and MS\u2026. it is a phenomenal discovery. It\u2019s not new but this is a big piece of research that [we hope] people will listen to in this country. Because the fact that this research has been out there for a while and we don\u2019t know about it, it is disgusting. [My friend said to me] \u2018All this time I\u2019ve been told not take HRT, and actually it\u2019s good for me\u2019.\u201d<\/p> <section>According to the <a href=\"\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/hormone-replacement-therapy-hrt\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">NHS<\/a>, Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a treatment to relieve symptoms of\u00a0the\u00a0menopause. It replaces hormones that are at a lower level as you approach the menopause.<\/section><p>McCall previously detailed how she experienced menopausal symptoms at 44 in Channel 4\u2019s <a href=\"\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/documentaries\/davina-mccall-sex-myths-menopause-shocking-moment-newsupdate\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">Davina McCall: Sex, Myths and the Menopause<\/a> to dismantle taboos that surround midlife issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHRT improved my confidence in a huge way,\u201d she reflected,\u201dbecause before that, I felt like I was disappearing. And I get quite emotional when I talk about it because it made me feel invisible. I\u2019m frightened, I diminished myself, getting smaller and smaller. When I did get HRT, it was like being reborn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMenopausal women, we\u2019ve done our jobs for 30s years, we really f*****g know our stuff, and we\u2019re so useful to society. And if we disappear and diminish, we\u2019re losing an enormously important sector of the economy and we\u2019re important,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Davina McCall: Sex, Mind and the Menopause airs on Channel 4 on Monday 2nd May at 9pm.
