Downton Abbey stars Sophie McShera and Michael C. Fox have teased the future of the franchise.<\/p>\n

The latest cinematic outing of the beloved period drama has finally arrived in the form of Downton Abbey: A New Era<\/a>, with the servants of Downton getting a major treat when a glamorous film crew turns up on the estate to begin production on a new motion picture.<\/p>\n

Of course, the servants themselves are not without their own dramas and stories too.<\/p>\n

Stars Sophie McShera and Michael C. Fox have discussed the stories for their characters \u2013 assistant cook Daisy and her husband and first footman Andy Parker, respectively \u2013 in the new sequel, after their characters married off-screen between films.<\/p>\n

Speaking with RadioTimes.com<\/a>, McShera said of the characters\u2019 unseen wedding: \u201cWe invented it off-screen.\u201d<\/p>

Fox added: \u201cIt\u2019s quite lively. Yeah, like a fiddle player\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, good food,\u201d added McShera.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood dancing. On Point. Mrs Patmore did a kind of interpretive dance,\u201d continued Fox.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, of course, she did. Mrs Hughes was on the karaoke, always,\u201d joked McShera.<\/p>\n

In the film, the two characters deal with living at a farm with Daisy\u2019s former father-in-law Mr Murray and how that impacts their marriage, while Daisy is delighted when a film crew turns up at Downton.<\/p>\n

On the characters\u2019 marriage and its future, McShera noted: \u201c<\/span>I don\u2019t know what\u2019s gonna happen with their marriage.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were really excited by seeing them away from the house and in a really kind of personal setting,\u201d commented Fox.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, and just they\u2019re really relaxed because you never really see them like that they\u2019re always working and I liked the idea of seeing them like as sort of Gogglebox characters on the sofa.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd they seem really content,\u201d noted McShera.<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cYeah, but I think you never know with Julian [Fellowes] you just don\u2019t know what\u2019s gonna happen. And you especially never know with Daisy. She\u2019s not great at settling down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fox went on: \u201c[Julian Fellowes] doesn\u2019t really like leaving characters happy for too long. So they\u2019re happy and they\u2019re content for now, but I\u2019m sure they\u2019ll do something to subvert that.\u201d<\/p>\n

For A New Era, an amused McShera thought that Daisy wouldn\u2019t \u201chave a wandering eye because she always fancied someone, but she fancies someone else in this film as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fox laughed and noted that Andy is \u201cjust more content\u201d, but McShera called him \u201cvery secure\u201d.<\/p>\n

Discussing where the franchise could go next after the second film, McShera and Fox offered some insights on what they would like to see.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, you see it start and you see this idea of, they need to sort of work out how to survive, that\u2019s happening in this film because it can\u2019t go on the way it\u2019s been.,\u201d revealed McShera.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s really fascinating. Watching that transition would be really interesting. Sort of them trying to be pragmatic and trying to work out how to keep going.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fox agreed, noting it would need to focus on how they all figure out \u201chow to adapt\u201d.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cWe know it\u2019s an interesting thing because we know how a house like Downton ends up. You know, we\u2019ve seen how they have to evolve because there\u2019s so many around the country. So it\u2019s like, how can I do anything, everything\u2019s up for grabs?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, I think Andy, probably out of most of them would stay within the house, and he wants that trajectory to end up like Carson.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, change is afoot for everyone, Fox notes, as \u201ceverything\u2019s kind of moving away and adapting and redefining themselves away from this hierarchy because it\u2019s gradually getting pulled apart.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
