{"id":14679,"date":"2022-04-30T12:42:48","date_gmt":"2022-04-30T10:42:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/?p=1636146"},"modified":"2022-04-30T13:21:09","modified_gmt":"2022-04-30T11:21:09","slug":"chris-chibnall-reveals-least-favourite-doctor-who-script-as-showrunner","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/radiotimes\/rss_feed\/chris-chibnall-reveals-least-favourite-doctor-who-script-as-showrunner\/","title":{"rendered":"Chris Chibnall reveals \u201cleast favourite\u201d Doctor Who script as showrunner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"><\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Molly Moss\n                \t\t<\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Saturday, 30 April 2022 at 12:00 am<\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>When <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-2022-specials-release\/&quot;\">Doctor Who<\/a> aired its season 11 finale back in December 2018, bringing an end to Jodie Whittaker\u2019s first season as the 13th Time Lord, some viewers were left unimpressed.<\/p>\n<p>Titled <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-battle-of-ranskoor-av-kolos-finale-review-series-11-episode-10\/&quot;\">The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos<\/a>, the episode was billed as an epic conclusion for the Doctor as she and her companions went to great lengths to prevent deadly beams from destroying the Earth.<\/p>\n<p>However, the return of <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-series-11-episode-1-monster-revealed-jodie-whittaker\/&quot;\">season opener villain Tim Shaw<\/a>, and a lack of plot resolution, left some viewers disgruntled.<\/p>\n<p>And it turns out that Doctor Who followers weren\u2019t the only ones disappointed by the season 11 finale.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent interview with\u00a0<a href=\"\/\/doctorwhomagazine.com\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">Doctor Who Magazine<\/a>, outgoing showrunner Chris Chibnall revealed it was his \u201cleast favourite\u201d script from his tenure in charge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParticularly in that first series, I spent a lot of time helping other writers. We had some problems towards the end and I had to go back and do some big rewrites,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich meant that the version of episode 10 [The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos] that we filmed was a first draft. But I just didn\u2019t have time to do a second draft. It didn\u2019t feel enough like a season finale, and that was entirely down to time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cSo that\u2019s my least favourite script of mine. Davies<\/a>, who is making a comeback to the show after previously stewarding it through its revival from 2005 to 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Davies\u2019 return has, of course, got fans wondering whether Chibnall might return to the sci-fi series one day, but in a recent interview with <strong>Radio Times magazine<\/strong>, Chibnall made his position on a potential comeback crystal clear.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>He said: \u201cAbsolutely never again! Clear red line, final script. I never expected to come back after working with Steven [Moffat], really, and I\u2019d turned it down a couple of times after that.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>He continued: \u201cSupervising teenagers\u2019 revision is taking up my time now and there\u2019s lots of other things to write! I will happily sit back and watch. For all that it\u2019s been gorgeous all along, now it\u2019s like, \u2018Oh I remember this.
