It\u2019s nice to see you via Zoom, Kiefer. Isn\u2019t technology great?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m maybe the last person that doesn\u2019t own a computer. I\u2019ve had to borrow one to do this\u2026 I had a small record label with a guy named Jude Cole. After work I\u2019d say, \u201cYou want to get a drink?\u201d and he\u2019d be like, \u201cOh, man, I\u2019ve got 100 emails to answer.\u201d Once I heard that, I never wanted a computer. Studios hire someone to print the script and get it to me.<\/p>\n

I guess that means your TV isn\u2019t hi-tech?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a regular telly. I watch TV in an open kitchen, which leads to a family den. I tend to throw on the news while I\u2019m doing stuff. Other people in my house tell me not to because I start talking to the TV \u2013 and not in a nice way.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re swearing at politicians?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yeah, a bit. To pacify me, someone will switch over to a Second World War documentary. It\u2019s pretty s**t when a war documentary is better than the news.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a tough couple of years\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

It has. I\u2019m lucky: I\u2019ve got a nice home, I\u2019m comfortable. Others have had it tougher. I\u2019ve spent my whole life moving at a million miles an hour and lately I find myself getting my blankie and lying down to watch TV at 6pm. By 8:30, I\u2019m out like a light.<\/p>

In that brief window when you do watch TV, what\u2019s on?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Succession<\/a> was fantastic. I liked The Marvelous Mrs Maisel<\/a>, Ozark<\/a>\u2026 And I watch a lot of cooking shows.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your signature dish? <\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m probably most known for a beef stew. It sounds simple but it\u2019ll leave an impression.<\/p>\n

What happens if one of your shows or films comes on as you flick through the channels? <\/strong><\/p>\n

It depends. If it\u2019s the last series of 24<\/a>, I can\u2019t find the control fast enough. But Stand by Me [Rob Reiner\u2019s 1986 film] is like finding an old yearbook, so I\u2019ll leave it on.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your issue with 24? <\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s still too close \u2013 I don\u2019t even have mirrors in my house. I could give a fine performance in a film but by the time I\u2019ve watched it and done all the self-loathing, I\u2019ve ruined it for myself.<\/p>\n
