Outgoing Doctor Jodie Whittaker is said to be \u201cso happy\u201d about her replacement, according to Russell T Davies.<\/p>\n
The returning Doctor Who showrunner spoke to BBC News just hours after Ncuti Gatwa was revealed to be the new Doctor<\/a> and revealed he spoke to her fairly recently.<\/p>\n Speaking on the BAFTA red carpet, Davies was asked about what\u2019s to come after Whittaker\u2019s exit: \u201cWe\u2019re not giving anything away yet, Jodie\u2019s still the Doctor. We love Jodie, we spoke to her yesterday. She\u2019s so happy about this, but we\u2019re going to keep quiet. It\u2019s all going to happen in 2023.\u201d<\/p> Gatwa himself found out about the Doctor Who<\/a> news in February, but according to the Sex Education<\/a> star, it was tricky keeping it a secret.<\/p>\n He added to BBC News: \u201cI\u2019ve known since about February, [it\u2019s] been tricky trying to keep this under wraps because I\u2019ve got a very big mouth.<\/p>\n \u201cBut yeah, we did it. It feels really amazing and it\u2019s a true honour, this role is an institution and it\u2019s so iconic and it means a lot to so many people including myself and so it makes everyone feel seen as well, it\u2019s something everyone can enjoy so I feel very grateful to have had the baton handed over and I\u2019m going to try do my best.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
