Can Sunny move on?<\/p>\n

Unforgotten<\/a> is deep into filming on its fifth season, with the new episodes set to feature Sin\u00e9ad Keenan as the new DCI, Jessica James<\/a>, after the tragic\u00a0death of Nicola Walker\u2019s DCI Cassie Stewart<\/a>\u00a0in season 4.<\/p>\n

James\u2019 arrival will surely create a different dynamic for Sanjeev Bhaskar\u2019s DI Sunny Khan on the show, so when RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press caught up with Bhaskar on the BAFTA TV Awards 2022<\/a> red carpet, we asked the actor about exactly that.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Bhaskar teased that in the new season \u201cSin\u00e9ad\u2019s character has come in as Sunny\u2019s boss and it\u2019s not the best place that Sunny would wish to be in. So let\u2019s just say that\u2019s where they kick off.\u201d<\/p>\n

When she was cast Keenan called Bhaskar \u201cbrilliant and incredibly lovely\u201d and said: \u201cI\u2019m hoping that if I play my cards right I might even get to take a peek in Sunny\u2019s backpack!\u201d<\/p>\n

Continuing to discuss what viewers can expect from season 5 while on the red carpet, Bhaskar said: \u201cIt sort of continues the story a little bit from series four so Sunny is dealing with a degree of grief, the loss of his friend and partner, so that has an impact on this story.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn terms of format it\u2019s very similar to the others, but there\u2019s a range of ages in the suspects, which I don\u2019t think has happened before. They\u2019re quite different so that\u2019s kind of interesting too.\u201d<\/p>

Unforgotten was nominated for the Drama Series award at this year\u2019s BAFTAs, alongside Manhunt: The Night Stalker, Vigil and In My Skin, the latter of which took home the prize.<\/p>\n
